Not into protesting? Maybe you’d rather pray. New Tuesday event

Sign-waving and marching aren’t the only ways to express concern. How about gathering to pray? Jeannie asked us to announce this nondenominational event that organizers plan to try for the next three Tuesdays to see if people are interested, starting tomorrow (February 10):

So much wrong, so little cardboard.

But our prayers are never wasted. Beginning on Tuesday, February 10th, from 5:30 to 6:30 we will be holding a candlelight prayer vigil at Lady Liberty, a replica of the Statue of Liberty located on Alki Beach. We plan to meet every Tuesday in February and then potentially make it a weekly opportunity.

This will be an interfaith prayer vigil. Anyone who wants to lift our country into God’s light is welcome to join us. Please come ready to respect that we all pray in different ways. We plan to have simple songs, brief reflections, and opportunities for people to share their thoughts. If you have any questions you are welcome to contact jeannietodd97@gmail.com.

I’m not religious in the least, but if this leads to honest, critical self-reflection, I’m all for it.  Before we go out and wave signs,  we have to know what and why we believe what we do and any moral inconsistencies implicit in those beliefs or actions.  After all,  we all make “deals with the Devil,” so to speak.

Would love to come but can’t do Tuesday nights. Will pray virtually with you at that time. Thank you for offering this!

I can see where this could draw the faithful from both sides of the political spectrum.  Both sides believe that they are on the morally correct side.  Could be interesting.

But only one side is behaving in consistency with how their proclaimed savior actually behaved and taught his disciples…

I’d take prayer over protest any day of the week. I appreciate that there are people bold enough to pray publicly in this city.

Didn’t know that was considered bold. Nobody needs permission or approval in this city to pray.

Just my personal observation- I’ve lived all over the country (in the South, Northeast, Midwest- large and small cities) and Seattle is the place out of all of them that is the most unwelcoming as far as being tolerant of religion out in the general public. So, I do understand Amen’s perspective. Thank you to the organizers of the event.

Isn’t “prayer” what has led us to this unfortunate societal point?

I believe in prayer.  And also karma!

Sorry, comment time is over.
