UPDATE:2 injured, 1 in custody in Westwood-area stabbing incident

6:07 PM: Seattle Fire is sending a “scenes of violence” response to the Westwood area for a report that a woman has been stabbed. SFD is staging near 30th/Trenton but police are also responding to a scene on Cloverdale, and have a possible suspect detained.

6:12 PM: We don’t yet know exactly where it happened; circumstances sound relatively chaotic. Police are also checking on a report of a fight near the 26th/Trenton RV encampment.

(Added: WSB photos)

6:23 PM: Our crew reports a woman being treated on Trenton and is headed over to the 24th/Cloverdale scene where a man is reported to have a stab wound to the knee. No life-threatening wounds reported; the weapon is described as scissors. The circumstances now are being referred to as “domestic violence.”

6:33 PM: That’s also what a police sergeant tells us at the scene, adding that the man in custody, suspected of attacking the injured woman, is the man with a leg wound.

ADDED: SFD said both were in stable condition when taken to Harborview; the man is 26, the woman 24.

How much more are we going to take before enough is enough with that Westwood encampment! Everyone show up tomorrow to the precinct for the meeting, we need your voices heard!

You do know that this is scheduled for clean up.  And that the police have nothing to do with the actual clean up itself.

      • WSB September 10, 2024 (8:33 pm)

That’s not true that police have nothing to do with it – SPD is part of the Unified Care Team and officers are at the very least present, on standby, during sweeps.

        • Derp September 10, 2024 (11:56 pm)

I should have added that. But that is true.

    • K September 10, 2024 (8:25 pm)

Are you suggesting homelessness is the cause of domestic violence?  Or is it just a reflex to blame everything on the homeless without regard to what the police say happened?

      • flimflam September 11, 2024 (9:20 am)

I don’t think anyone suggested that, just that this mess of a camp needs to be disbanded. The city agrees…

  • B September 10, 2024 (6:19 pm)

@Delridge/Trenton, hearing mutliple sirens all over the place. Definitely sounds chaotic.

  • DC September 10, 2024 (6:20 pm)

Not surprised something has happened there. Those RVs are a nightmare. I’ve been cursed at trying to walk my dog around them. The drug use and prostitution out of the RVs are out of control.

  • Dr Wu September 10, 2024 (7:17 pm)

This type of behavior is unacceptable.

  • Vee September 10, 2024 (7:41 pm)

When is it moving, need to arrest illegal activity, it’s going to get worse

    • WSB September 10, 2024 (8:35 pm)

As we’ve reported, the city said second half of September. Second half starts one week from today.

  • OneTimeCharley September 10, 2024 (8:08 pm)

I wonder if every single one of the vehicles there is moving every 72 hours as required by law? Ticket and tow. Citywide.

    • bill September 10, 2024 (9:08 pm)

But not in front of my house, please! There is a fairness problem with selective application of the 72-hr limit. Sometimes I don’t drive a for a week at a time. Some of my neighbors don’t  move their cars for weeks. I appreciate Parking Enforcement exercising discretion. Draconian enforcement would be fair, but I wonder how long people would put up with pointlessly shuffling their cars around their neighborhood. I have no idea what a proper solution is.

But Bill, is your parked car drawing in drug deals, attracting randos with no self control, contributing to piles of trash accumulating, causing people to clog up the sidewalk so as to be unusable except for those hanging out? I get parking rules should be uniformly enforced but man that Trenton Street is a hot mess of drugging, unusable sidewalks, tarps, piles of trash getting bigger all the time. Time for the city to do us all a service and get it cleared out.

The sidewalk and safety and access to drugs issue is my biggest concern with a high school right there… I watched an elderly man early this morning try to slip by on the sidewalk abutting the USPS and one of the encampment residents refused to move and devilishly eye’d the older guy as he walked past. I’m sure the businesses would like these people gone too. There’s a constant issue of retail theft and zero prosecution.

    Who would’ve imagined?

  • Wester September 10, 2024 (8:46 pm)

Some just moved to 9th and Henderson.  So, it’s just musical blocks, but for the same blocks.

  • Admiral-2009 September 10, 2024 (10:28 pm)

Bill – it’s not that hard to comply with the 72 hour street parking limit.  Strictly enforcement of this law could go a long way to resolving the issue.

    • Mary September 11, 2024 (9:34 am)

Who is moving the RVs from spot to spot ?

  • DRW September 11, 2024 (7:38 am)

And now there aer 3 RVs at 18th and Henderson. Why? Because there is no enforcement of the 72 hour rule.

  • waikikigirl September 11, 2024 (7:40 am)

You all should feel lucky that something is happening a lot quicker than it has in Burien but it still doesn’t fix the problem in hand does it?

There’s still homelessness, there’s still drug addicts, there’s still mental illness, there’s still crime… only difference is, it is on a different street.

  • Sly Dittin September 11, 2024 (10:25 am)

Homelessness is not a crime and can be fixed by homes, the problem is the drug addiction that they choose, they don’t want help they want a fix! The city will not let them do drugs so they stay homeless, I know because I was a drug addict! The people need to want to help themselves, otherwise you are throwing away recourses, arresting them is sometimes the best thing for them so unless you have been a drug addict, don’t act like you know

    • OneTimeCharley September 11, 2024 (11:40 pm)

Thank you for sharing and welcome back.

I agree with Sly Dittin. They have to want help. I worked as a hospital follow-up care coordinator for a local medicaid plan for 1.5 yrs. My caseload was mainly OD hospital discharges. In that year and a half only 2 patients agreed to rehab. One was living in her car and felt she’d hit rock bottom from being an accountant then losing her husband and home to fire. The other had made arrangements to go to rehab in eastern Washington. His dad drove him there upon discharge. The rest of my caseload flat out declined our offers to get them into programs. It was a disheartening revolving door of OD-admission-discharge-OD. Many times there was a little incarceration in there too. As for rehab the average number of attempts is 2 and can be years to change habits/cravings/lifestyle/feelings of failure. For some the “old crowd” is the biggest setback. I’m not saying oh poor them give em a break though. Our society needs to advocate for more mental health resources not keep shutting down beds. In the meantime keep the RVs moving. Enforce the 72 parking limits. Make them clean the garbage up before moving on. If illegal activity is seen search and seize including the RV. Drug houses can seized so? Right now they have free reign and that’s not right.

Thank you for your comment and yes I know the people involved it is 💯 centered around drugs brings out the worst in people I pray for both of them they both are young under 25 and have babies together our systems are so messed up tho no matter how sober how much they fight against systems bottom line is our society our culture at this time is making it harder than it had to be even if a dad does step up responsible the requirements on top of legalities keep him those kids suppressed combine with drug addiction plus being homeless it’s too much people snap I know his mom too and she has fought the system too and nothing i.mean it’s unreal how they have treated this family many prayers for both involved someone ran that guy over and beat him with a chain he had to have emergency surgery yesterday he does love her he loves those kids he has jumped thru hoops his mom too and still ugh it’s so frustrating we need reform we need systems that actually help not enable people it’s a very sad situation and we need to encourage in our laws in society especially seattle better accountability with compassion where hand up is not hand out and we literally make a way for people to survive the systems we have now suppress encourage even drug use we need to make.that crap not okay again and literally empower not discourage parents grandparents to step in help my prayers are with both of them they both are I’d u knew them u would know beautiful young.people that got caught up in stupid drugs with beautiful children they made prayers for both and children and families

I drove by today to go to Westwood, it just keeps getting worse, it has never been this bad and I’m wondering why and how it got to this point without stopping it, it’s blatant outright drug activity and an absolute mess  spreading more and more, totally unsafe for students and USPS and stores and apartments, this is all illegal activity and I can’t understand why it’s tolerated and they are t arrested for littering, illegal drug, stolen property and harassment

    • WSB September 12, 2024 (5:07 pm)

It was a major topic at last night’s precinct meeting, which I’m writing about tonight. No new information, though, the site is still expected to be cleared later this month.

Sorry, comment time is over.
