64th and Hinds here. Around 12:45ish I heard a solid 5 or so shots followed by 8-10 more. 5 minutes later another handful I couldn’t count because I had gone inside at that point. They were very obviously in between me and the lighthouse.
Found a “live round!” Heard several sounds that sounded liked small arms fire and reported it. The last sound was definitely a rifle shot. Have been in the military long enough to know the difference from a muffler back firing. Thank you SPD for taking this seriously.
Glad it seems no one was injured. Wondering if it was my perception or a reality, I did a quick search on the blog. For the last 12 months there have been at least 2 incidents of gun fire in WS each month, except Nov. 2023, there were no articles about gun fire. So sad.
I originally came to west Seattle in 1989 and it was about as good of a place to live as you could imagine. I left almost six years ago but check the Ws blog from time to time. I scrolled down the list of crime reports and what I read for just 2024 is far more than what would happen in a year even just ten years ago.i Don’t know if the current political demographic of the city will push for tough but necessary change but right now, there are criminals who aren’t afraid of getting caught.
Heard several rounds of what sounded like gunshots around 5:30 this morning. Live near Fairmount Park, but they didn’t sound super close
I also woke up to it. It sounded like a car was speeding off not too long after. There was at least 3 separate burst. Maybe 5, 3 and 1 or 2
BDJ – WSB only reports confirmed gunfire. That is gunfire in which casings are found by police. There is actually more like 20 gunfire incidents per month in west seattle.
“Confirmed gunfire” means at least one of these criteria:
-Casing (s) or bullet(s) found
-Victim (injured or killed)
-Property damage (bullet hole, broken glass, etc.)
-Someone actually seeing the shot(s) fired
But not all unconfirmed reports can be assumed to be “unconfirmed gunfire.” Fireworks (year-round) and modified backfiring count for some of them.
ADDED: And moments after I posted this, dispatch sent officers to check out 911 calls about possible shots in High Point. Officer just radioed in “it’s fireworks, I’m seeing them go off.”
Sorry, comment time is over.
