TRAFFIC ALERT: Dog on the West Seattle Bridge

Two people have texted us in the past few minutes about a dog on the upper bridge, near the eastbound side’s Delridge onramp. One described it as “looks very afraid, has a collar, white and brown, shorter hair.” As we advised that texter, this is definitely something to report to 911 – hazard to traffic (not to mention the dog).

There were 3 of us trying to get the dog while still in Delridge before going onto ramp to bridge.  If people could pull over in the ramp we could have blocked the dog.  It is not normal to see a dog on the shoulder of ramp to bridge!!!

My husband and I came across him running in the street under the bridge and were trying to lure him with treats and catch him in Delridge with other folks but he took off so fast onto the on ramp and bridge. We did call 911 and they said they were sending officers. Really hope he is okay. He looked like such a sweet dog. Light colored Labrador.

Does anyone know if this dog was safely retrieved from the high bridge? Did SPD locate him after it being reported to them? Thanks for any extra information. That poor baby.

If we don’t hear from anyone tonight, I’ll be checking with SPD and SAS (since, if captured by authorities, that’s where the dog would have been taken) in the morning.

A blue van with lettering was pulled over, two people with long pole and loop and were attempting to snare him when he jumped. Fortunately, he was last seen swimming up stream with the incoming tide along the west bank. I think he got out along West Marginal Way, shook off, and poor baby was heading home then. Everything turned ok this time, a happy end to a beautiful Fall afternoon.

How do you know he was heading home?

    • Lp October 21, 2023 (8:55 pm)

That doesn’t make sense. You “think” he got out and went home? but you don’t really have any idea, right?

Sorry, comment time is over.
