BIZNOTE: Future Primitive sets Alki opening date

Back in May, we brought you first word that White Center’s Future Primitive Brewing would open an outpost at 2536 Alki Avenue SW. Thanks to Ian for the tip that Future Primitive has just announced it’ll open there this Friday (August 4th). Hours will be 11 am-10 pm seven days a week.

This is such a HUGE WIN for the community. This spot has been missed so much this summer. And Future Primitive is one of the best breweries in the city.

I thought the reasoning that WS brewing gave for shutting down was that the space had been purchased for development. Is that not the case anymore?

    • WSB August 2, 2023 (4:33 pm)

We’ve already reported on that. To recap: Not “development” – the owners were going to add a second floor of apartments over the brewery and coffee sites. However, the owners sold the site back to a past owner, with no current development plans.

Here’s a little more backstory to add to WSB’s reporting – apparently the new owners who picked it up after Tom Lin sold the property, were going to let their son do the work on the building and manage the site. West Seattle Brewing felt they were getting a very raw deal (they were) after the pandemic, and it turned into the landlord and WS Brewing being unwilling to work together. Little did the new landlord’s son know how much work was needed on the place just to get it out of grandfathered status and up to code, not to mention adding on to the building; he also didn’t realize how difficult and time-consuming it is to get a shore-work permit, and so he gave up the plans and sold the property back to Tom Lin, who is the current landlord and now leasing to Future Primitive.  Sad that West Seattle Brewing lost their tap shack, but it’s good that the place will once again be a great venue to drink beer and watch sunsets with your friends and loved ones.

I want to add to this – that the West Seattle Brewing “Mothership” on Fauntleroy at Avalon is still very much alive and a welcoming and fun place to hangout, watch sports, and drink beer and wine. They are offering food again through a collaboration with a small-pies place, and they have great plans in the works to expand their selection of tasty beverages. Their trivia host is an awesome and fun dude, they have great musical taste and talent among the bartenders, and it very easily has become one of my favorite places in West Seattle. Go there and be merry! And no, I am not a paid actor. Just a happy patron!

This is awesome as it’s much better beer and waaaaaaay better service than the last folks that occupied it. I’ve been hoping for an outfit much more deserving since the wonderful Slices left the beach

Disagree. Their service was great and they treated very hard to make it a welcoming and inclusive place. Not everyone liked their beer, but I know many that did and still do. Your opinion is yours and subjective, but I also think it’s incorrect.

As a “knowledge-bearing individual”, are you carrying a bias here, or just implying my lack of knowledge? You remind me of some folks that worked at a crappy brewery outpost at a nearby beach. Just my naive take, from a local yokel

      • Adam August 2, 2023 (7:19 pm)

Oh yeah, saw your above comment. Def no bias

When you stoop down to insulting me, and people who definitely don’t deserve your unkind attitude, you lose all credibility. Did you get bounced for being too drunk, or maybe acting like an entitled jerk to the staff when you didn’t like the length of the beer line on a busy day when somebody called off? Why so salty man?

          • Bill August 2, 2023 (10:44 pm)

You nailed it. Adam was kicked out in May 2022. Sad.

          • A knowledge-bearing individual August 3, 2023 (3:38 pm)

Thanks, Bill! I knew it had to be something like that. I know for a fact it’s very hard to get bounced from their establishment, the former Tap Shack included, because they have a high tolerance for bullshit, which is right in line with their inclusiveness. If Adam got kicked out, he definitely deserved it. I’ll bet they even told him he could come back another time and be welcome, because I’ve witnessed that happen. He may have just not chosen to. Pretty sad to bash a business because you couldn’t behave like a civilized person and got called out for it.

I literally was there yesterday eating their orange swirl ice cream. Will that be going away? It was amazing.

Super stoked to have Future Primitive down here on Alki! Outstanding beer and employees. We’ve been missing a casual spot to grab drinks here at the beach. And open 7 days a week 11am-10pm, big win!! Welcome to the hood FP

Fingers crossed Farmboy burgers will be making a regular appearance!

Sorry, comment time is over.
