WHALES: Transient killer whales in Elliott Bay

Thanks to Kersti Muul for the report – transient orcas are in Elliott Bay, currently northwest of Duwamish Head. She says some are continuing eastbound into the bay, Let us know if you see them!

    Saw them!  About 25 minutes after this was posted, around 2PM, there were a handful on the north end of Elliott Bay headed west.  I figure they must have made a lap in the bay and were headed back out.  Thank you Kersti Muul and WSB for the heads up!  This was my first orca sighting!  How can you tell if they are transients vs. residents?

    I took these photos a bit after 2 pm looking northwest not far off Alki Point – looks like harbor porpoise and a harbor seal.
