WEST SEATTLE WEATHER: Weekend preview, and time for a change

Thanks to JayDee for the photo – tonight brought the second-to-last sunset of Standard Time, with Daylight Saving Time arriving tomorrow night (technically Sunday morning, 2 am “springs forward” to 3 am). More sunshine is in the forecast for tomorrow, and another high near 60 – today hit 57.

I know there is legislation in the queue to stay on daylight savings time all the time. But, in my opinion, daylight savings time is stupid. The sun knows what time it is. Animals know what time it is (don’t think so? ask my parrot!). Our bodies know what time it is. And daylight savings time just puts everything out of whack. The time of day should be determined by the sun, as it had been for tens of thousands of years before some fat-cat had a big idea to get his farm hands to work harder longer.

In construction, it is a safety hazard.

Fair point. However there’s a thin cat now and it’s called ‘the way people live in today’s world.’ The sun will still rise and set at exactly the same time. The birds (maybe even your parrot) will still sing an hour before sunrise every day… whether that ‘hour’ is called six or seven, they won’t know the difference. But people will get to enjoy their evenings with their friends and family longer… whether they are working in the fields or not. Kids will get to enjoy being outside after school without doing so in the ‘dangers of the night’. And pets will get longer walks… I value your opinion, but I agree with DST year round.

Mostly I guess I wish they would just “pick a time, any time” and stick with it so we are not bouncing forward/back twice a year.  We could all get used to one permanent change and be  done with the switch. Also, I don’t undertand why the powers that be in D.C. have any say about what we do here in Washington if we choose to stay on DST. Whereas if we chose to stay on standard time, they wouldn’t care? I don’t get it…

Hate to spring forward and Absolutely love to fall back!

I love to fallback and dislike springing forward.  I would like the winter hours extended to the summer time.

Agree with standard time as the default; as days get longer there’s plenty of light well into the evening, but the folks who have to go to work *early* are the ones who need morning hours to be light!

My Bean (cat) who now is in heaven hated the time change as much as I did, he was diabetic and the time change was always difficult for his exact same time insulin injection.I’m with Auntie, pick a time anytime and stick with it.
