…several people have asked, so here’s what was happening: According to radio communication, a driver hit a house in the 2700 block of 49th SW, then got argumentative with the house’s residents. Somebody involved was reported to have mentioned a gun. Things seemed to be escalating and police briefly needed extra backup. It’s all being sorted out now; no injuries reported.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE: The driver, a 26-year-old woman, was booked into jail for investigation of DUI.
Many ways. *I do NOT know exactly how this one happened, could not go to the scene* but we’ve reported on houses hit by runaway vehicles, vehicles that missed turns, drunk drivers that somehow turned into driveways and hit garage doors ….
Funny you should ask. This same thing happened to this same house (actually cement wall) 3 weeks ago. In both instances the drivers were intoxicated.Where it happened is the slight curve at the top of the Admiral Hill (49th). They just installed a new crosswalk with lights… but unfortunately that hasn’t stopped the speeding up and down admiral.
good question! and then how do you argue with the people who own the house you just ran into!
My thoughts exactly!! What are you going to deny it when your car is sticking out of their house. Feel sorry for the homeowner having to deal with this. BTW, just a few hours before this crash, I emailed the city and Lisa H. requesting they look into a speed camera on Admiral. It turns to 25mph just after California, but drivers are typically hitting 40. Sometimes more and are loud as hell. It’s a long shot. but we could really use these cameras throughout the city. and I bet they would pay for themselves within a year. (not that it would have prevented this crash…, but neither did the crosswalk! Just saying.)
Yes, more ticketing cameras, closed circuit video, and surveillance drones.Three strikes and you spend time picking up city trash, filling pot-holes, building tiny homes for the homeless.
i’d say if you manage to hit someone’s house with your car its not really the time to be “argumentative”!
What if the house suddenly jumped out at them and they couldn’t turn in time ?
I was watching from afar, but it appeared like she was trying to flee the scene. She was combative with the police (yelling obscenities) and even had to be restrained to a gurney when she wouldn’t cooperate in the cop car.The homeowner on the other hand was calm, called the police, and expressed genuine concern over the welfare of the driver, passenger, and dog. Kudos to them for keeping their cool after experiencing this for the second time in the last month.
Why is there any discussion? It’s clear what we’ve been told investigation for a DUI. Done. Thank God everyone is okay unless I missed something.
As you can see this was a pretty good hit on that wall. They left their license plate and frame behind; the frame is bejeweled and says “Queen” on it.
