The orcas are easy to locate because there are a bunch of pleasure boats shadowing them.
this information, though really intereting, can put the orcas in peril. boaters do not always follow the distance rules…
Trust me, people are not checking our site every five minutes in hopes of seeing something like this so they can hitch up their boats, drive to Don Armeni, get in the water, and speed around the point based on our “they’re in the area” vague mention (which is secondhand anyway). The boats reportedly following the transients today were doing so before we ever mentioned them (we got a text to that effect). This is all about LAND-BASED whale watching, as we and organizations like The Whale Trail have evangelized for years. – TR
I live seeing the posts announcing that whales are in the area and will frequently hop.on my bike to see if I can grab some photos. Please keep the announcements coming and thanks for doing so in a way that is relatively safe for our Orcas.
Thank you for updates when orcas are in the area. I have yet to get to the shore in time to see them, but am hoping to some day.
Sorry, comment time is over.
