Anti-war demonstration in West Seattle Junction

Lots of questions about the helicopter activity over The Junction. As we’ve answered everyone who messaged us, it’s just TV, checking out the anti-war demonstration (which we previewed here last night). So far not the size of last month’s pro-impeachment rally but participants are following the same pattern as that one, walking with the light in the Walk-All-Ways crosswalk at California/Alaska, so no traffic impacts.

Wow thank you to our local news teams for spending 30+ minutes hovering above our normally quiet and beautiful little junction, wasting fuel and annoying local residents to capture this magnificent crowd of 5 or 6 people that have gathered to tell our president NO to the war in Iran.

Actually about 20 by our count. But I’m surprised, even as a former TV news manager, that anyone expended helicopter energy on this. If it had turned out to be big, maybe send someone then. I guess there was nothing for the chopper to do WRT snow panic…

I mean, wouldn’t you want to see the full moon from a helicopter ? 😂i would like to hope that the media just want to amplify what we should all be doing.

Meh. Looks like a flame out. Much ado about nothing.

It’s blanking freezing. That’s going to suppress turnout for sure. I did a walk by but retreated to a warm shower. 🚿

The tension with Iran hopefully has reduced.  I am curious as to why young men are required to register for the draft yet young woman are not.  This seems to be very discriminatory and needs to be corrected.  My preference no one has to register, but if it is required all young adults need to be required to register.

No one is being drafted. There was a hoax, with fake text messages going out about a draft (which were sent to male and female teens). There is no actual draft (and there hasn’t been since the 70’s).

It is correct that no one is BEING drafted *but* for those who don’t have a young-adult son, they might not be aware that Selective Service registration is still required when men reach age 18. We know this because we have a young-adult son. It’s also verifiable:

Way way way back when I was that age, there were rumblings about changing the law to require women to register too. Never happened.

I’m dismayed by the flip responses to this demonstration. Surely the commenters are not okay with this president and his impulsive actions. Assassinating a “bad guy” with no idea of the repercussions is not a smart plan. Perhaps WSB could be notified of upcoming gatherings in time to bring out a larger crowd.

I admire those that protested, and wish I could have joined them.

  • FedUp January 10, 2020 (1:01 pm)

So they are protesting the killing of a Terrorist and they are ok with the shooting down of an airliner? These people are whack!

    • psps January 10, 2020 (2:18 pm)

That airliner would never have been accidentally shot down if trump hadn’t gotten off his leash and stirred up the tension with his empty-headed diversionary tactics.

That’s inexcusable.  How could Iran not identify the aircraft before taking action? You wouldn’t give this sort of excuse to anyone. You wouldn’t give an armed robber a pass because he accidentally shot an killed innocent bystander if his excuse was being shot by a cop. Iran had the technology to Identify the aircraft but made a huge mistake.

People were there for more than one reason. We are tired of the Trump circus and possible escalation of more wars.  Friends in Europe say USA is the laughing stock of the world with Trumps talk and action. How much more?  I admire the folks who stand in the cold to express their thoughts.  To bad more couldn’t do something too.

  • Mj January 11, 2020 (3:17 pm)

Virginia agreed Trump is an idiot, problem is the D’s running at the top of the polls are way to far left for middle America.  A solid centrist is needed to move away from the polarized politics and take out Trump.

Sorry, comment time is over.
