UPDATE: Colman Pool pump problem

6:06 PM: Thanks to Barbara for the tip: Colman Pool closed early today because of a problem. Seattle Parks says they hope to be able to reopen tomorrow. We’ll check in the a.m. and include the info in our daily highlight list. This is the last full week of operation this year at the outdoor pool on Lincoln Park’s shore; after Labor Day, it’ll be closed except for one postseason weekend September 8th-9th.

8:21 PM: Parks now says swim lessons are canceled at Colman tomorrow because of the pump problem. No official call yet on the pool status beyond that.

9:12 AM TUESDAY: Closed today.

Thank you guys for posting this! The Parks Department doesn’t even have this on their pages about Colman Pool, or on their FB page.

Seattle Parks does not operate, nor maintain this wonderful, legacy pool as they should. As it deserves. Pump issues have been a problem a number of times in recent seasons of operation.Wish that we could have an aggressively focused Parks Dept. in the model of Vancouver, BC.

I agree the Parks Dept needs to better maintain this gem.  I also hope one day they can consider installing a seasonal enclosure for winter pool use, as has been done on a Mercer Island pool (unsure of the exact name).

Here here! This pool needs to be open longer in the year—many times I’ve walked by in April, May or Sept and it is 75F but the place is boarded up—a cost effective dome would be great to keep it going 6, 9, or 12 months! We’re paying someone to live above the locker rooms all year, why not get more out of the pool? And it would be great to have more athletic/aquatic facilities like BC does (slide, spray park, weights, etc.) somewhere in West Seattle.

Separate from the issue of opening Colman Pool for longer (BTW we have a separate newer story now that it’ll be closed tomorrow too) – regarding your last line, we have a small spraypark – Highland Park – open through Labor Day. And Parks also operates (indoor) Southwest Pool year-round; there’s some exercise equipment there as well as a hot tub: https://www.seattle.gov/parks/find/pools/southwest-pool

The pool is still closed today, Wednesday. I also agree that the pool should be open longer in the year. Additionally, what if it were open until 8 on weeknights so that folks that work a full day have time to get a swim in?!

Sorry, comment time is over.
