BIZNOTE: PCC Natural Markets to open Burien store

For PCC Natural Markets (WSB sponsor) customers contemplating the West Seattle store’s upcoming construction closure – next year you’ll have another option. PCC announced today that it will open a store “early next year” in Burien, at the Five Corners shopping center (15840 1st Ave. S.). From the announcement:

The Burien PCC project will be the first designed for PCC by Seattle-based Graham Baba Architects. The firm will also design the co-op’s West Seattle and Madison Valley stores.

Since 2013, PCC has added new locations in Seattle’s Green Lake and Columbia City neighborhoods and, last year, in the city of Bothell. It plans to open its 13th store in Seattle’s Madison Valley neighborhood in 2019. The community-owned food market also complemented store growth with the addition of online delivery in 2016 through partnerships with Instacart and Amazon.

The West Seattle store is scheduled to close May 31st for construction of a mixed-use project including a larger new PCC.

P.S. We confirmed with PCC that its Burien space is the former Albertsons at Five Corners.

    Great news!

this is awesome news. due to all the people and traffic in west seattle, this location will actually be easier for me to get to.

Ditto.  I live right on the SE city limits (Lower Arbor Heights) and it MUCH easier to get to Burien than Admiral district.

Yahoo! Closer to us, and will make it easier after the Admiral store closes for construction here soon (Still have to go to Columbia City for interim).

I’ve been working on this lease at work for months, and have been SO wanting to say something, but wasn’t worth the risk of getting fired. I think it will be a good location for them.

I moved to Burien at the right time!  A Bakery Nouveau AND a PCC within walking distance?  Heaven.

  • anonyme April 5, 2017 (3:13 pm)

Does this mean that PCC is not coming back to West Seattle?
Or will there be stores in both Burien and West Seattle?

    • WSB April 5, 2017 (3:24 pm)

This has no effect on the plan for a new West Seattle store, the plan that’s re-mentioned a couple times above. They have announced they’re building a Burien store *too*.

this is good news. Glad to hear it!

  • anonyme April 5, 2017 (4:09 pm)

    Excellent.  Thanks for the clarification.

For anybody who read the story earlier and is just checking back for comments: I also have added the last followup answer I had requested from PCC – which specific space in the center. It’s the ex-Albertsons. That may have been obvious to some who spend more time there but we hadn’t been to that center in a while and I couldn’t assume. – TR

pcc should move to whole foods location they cancled

    • WSB April 5, 2017 (5:39 pm)

We already asked them that. The reply, no, they won’t be doing that; they already have their new West Seattle space secured.

Great news – thank you PCC!  I understand the old Albertsons store is 20,000 square feet – so about 50% bigger than the current WS PCC size.  Can’t wait!!!

That is the Albertsons spot that was right by Trader Joe’s, correct?  Great to have both stores easy to access in one stop!

    • WSB April 5, 2017 (10:12 pm)

Yes. Just a few storefronts away, fronting the same walkway and parking lot.

    • TJ shopper April 6, 2017 (12:41 am)

I shopped at that Trader Joes before West Seattle got its own store. I know that shopping center. Albertsons parking lot is at a different angle from other stores. Poor visibility from the street.  Good luck PCC

  • Anne April 6, 2017 (7:01 am)

I have no doubt PCC will do great in that space. I too used to go to that TJ’s before WS store was built- had no trouble finding/parking/shopping at Albertsons. Great news!

Great news!  Happy to see PCC expanding (and moving close to me)  LOL

Plus Bakery Nouveau moving into downtown Burien.

Grand Central bakery already here.  Yum.

    Dick’s building a  “south” site…yeah!

Now Pagliacci, we’re all watching YOU!   It’s TIME to build a south end Pagliacci store!!!!!!!

  • Lady Who Goes to Three Grocery Stores April 6, 2017 (12:30 pm)

    Good work, PCC!

  • AJ April 6, 2017 (10:11 pm)

That is fantastic news! It’s about time PCC opened a South King County store! I’m going to love the convenience of hitting my two favorite grocery stores from the same parking lot.

Sorry, comment time is over.
