6:39 AM: Good morning! No incidents in/from West Seattle so far. Chance of showers/thundershowers today, says the forecast, and other parts of the metro area are seeing them already.

LOOKING AHEAD: The west end of the West Seattle Bridge will be closed overnight Wednesday and Thursday nights, as announced last week … Next Saturday morning (July 23rd) brings the West Seattle Grand Parade, Kiddie Parade, and Float Dodger 5K, which close California SW south of SW Admiral Way into early afternoon – here’s our most recent preview.

8:25 AM: Trouble on the Northbound Alaskan Way Viaduct – a crash just before the Western Avenue exit. WSDOT says it’s “blocking the right lane and partially blocking the off-ramp.” We’re also seeing an SFD crash response for 1st Avenue S. at East Marginal Way S. – no details on that one, though.

8:41 AM: SDOT says the Viaduct crash scene has cleared. No injuries reported; SFD was not dispatched.

Major 99 traffic leading to Seneca exit. Any idea what’s up? I just missed my bus connection…

Crash right before the Western exit.

Just yesterday I was at Victor Steinbrueck Park overlooking this exact section of 99 with family who is visiting Seattle. As we stood there I told them how dangerous this exit is because it backs up onto the freeway and people who don’t want to sit in the line go all the way up to the front of the line and then come to a full stop in the middle lane as they try to merge over at the last second. I’ve personally seen three wrecks here and have seen the aftermath of more than I could count. I don’t know for sure that this is what caused the current accident, but it’s probably a good guess. I’m so glad I don’t have to take this exit to get to work anymore because it is so dangerous every single day. I hope there are no serious injuries in the current accident.

No injuries reported, and the crash has cleared. I had to use this exit for years too when working at my first Seattle TV employer, based near Seattle Center – luckily, more during off-hours than peak hours, but that was bad enough.

Sorry, comment time is over.
