UPDATE: Fire call in 3200 block 31st SW

2:44 PM: Thanks for the text. Seattle Fire has sent a big dispatch to a possible house fire in High Point, in the 3200 block of 31st SW.

2:49 PM: Before we arrived, the call’s been closed, meaning the SFD units have all been sent back. So, nothing major.

4:47 PM: WSB’s Christopher Boffoli reports having caught the description via scanner before this call’s quick closeout: A small fire related to a bird’s nest in or around a chimney/heater outlet.

And the sparrows were probably so sure they’d found a perfect site. Poor birdies.

Are you sure it was in High Point? 911 log showed an address near SW City View….

Google Maps put the 3200 block of 31st SW here

Google could be wrong – we note during Garage Sale Day every year that Google Maps is off here and there.

As I noted, the call was completely closed while our photographer was en route so we had no way to verify upon arrival there.

If anyone actually saw the SFD engines and they were up there and not in HP, please let us know so we can correct this for archives’ sake …

Yes, Google got that one wrong. I looked up the actual house address, which I know you don’t publish and it is north of City View. The 3200 block is between Hanford and Hinds up on the hill.

But I did not see the fire trucks.

As we are stationed south of HP, we wouldn’t have gotten to City View in time either. But we are duty-bound to mention the major callouts even if they don’t pan out. The reason we don’t publish the addresses from the log btw is BECAUSE THEY ARE SOMETIMES WRONG (usually due to how they were reported to 911) … and not always corrected. (If you see an address on the log in all caps, it’s a change from what was originally logged. But we know from coverage that it doesn’t always get changed.)

That makes sense. I always assumed that you did not publish the address out of concern for the homeowner, which is why I didn’t include it in my note. 3227 31st Ave SW is likely incorrect, as there does not appear to be a home with that address per King County Parcel Viewer. That was a lot of trucks to send to a non-existent address.

I saw the fire trucks, and the ambulances. There were a slew of them along SW 30th, SW 31st, and SW Hinds.

Thank you. Next time we hear something in that vicinity, we’ll remember to skip the Google Map. Generally the numbers in that vicinity would run higher on the north-south streets but in High Point, there are some divergences, such as where Morgan turns from east-west to north-south, among other things, so we didn’t rule it out …

Sorry, comment time is over.
