UPDATE: Lottery ticket worth $157 million sold at West Seattle 7-11

12:51 PM: Do you have a ticket from last night’s Mega Millions drawing? Check it! We’ve just confirmed that a lottery ticket worth $157 million was sold in West Seattle. A spokesperson for Washington’s Lottery spokesperson that the 35th/Barton 7-11 sold the ticket with last night’s jackpot numbers for Mega Millions. The winner has not yet come forward – spokesperson Ann Marie Ricard tells us that any jackpot past $100 million has to be claimed at Lottery HQ in Olympia. We’ve just talked to the store owner, who says the lottery notified him about the ticket. Winning numbers are: 27-37-54-66-69 plus the Mega Ball 5.

ADDED 1:12 PM: Above, that’s store owner Sunny, who has been the 7-11 franchisee at 35th/Barton since the store opened a little over five years ago. He’s awaiting word on what he gets for selling the winning ticket, which by the way is worth $102 million cash if the winner takes a lump sum.

Meantime, the jackpot winner does have the right to remain anonymous, but the Lottery folks say they’ll let us know if s/he decides otherwise. (Is it you? editor@westseattleblog.com or 206-293-6302 whenever you’re ready to talk!)

9:54 PM: As pointed out in comments, regional media noted that retailers no longer get a share of the jackpot, per a budget measure passed by the Legislature last year, explained here.

    I believe that means the owner of the 7-11 also receives $1M for selling the ticket.  Big day for WS!

    Apparently the 7-Eleven company takes a cut, which may be why he doesn’t know what his amount will be.

      There are laws in some states requiring the winners to announce, not sure about WA.

    News media states the State of WA no longer pays the outlet for jackpot winners. If this is true, Sunny gets bupkus. Bummer.

    So I saw on the news tonight that in the state of Washington – the store doesn’t get any sort of commission for selling the winning ticket.   The owner of the store was very gracious on the news.    When did this change?  Does that mean the state is keeping the $$?   If I understood the newscast correctly its up to each state to decide if the selling store gets a commission or not.

    Pretty sure the winner will give a ‘tip’ to Sunny :)….it’s not me but seems like the right thing to do. I’m just sure I must know someone, who knows someone, who knows someone who knows the winner!!! I’m excited for whomever it is but also a little afraid … : {….watch the woodwork!

        Well, that’s lame State Legislature.  It’s not like retailers were taking a huge cut from the lottery income, were they?   The article says an additional $12 million to the state budget- that seems like a high estimate. oh well, sorry, 7-11

    Did we all read the same thing?  It said “5%”.  The new law takes the progressive amount of higher wins and limits the amount retailers can receive.

      The 5 percent is a commission on the sale price of the ticket, not on the jackpot. So if this was a $2 ticket, the store owner got a 10-cent commission, and that’s regardless of whether it was a winning ticket or not. – TR

    They should change the rules of the lottery, to where IF you stopped and purchased tickets at a retail sales location and your tickets are still “live” at such point as when that retail seller is credited with having sold a $150-million winning ticket, you yourself should get, say, free lotto tickets for a year.

    How many people will ever be around a store that even sells such a thing?  … let alone have (what for this we’re going to call) the common sense to have recently purchased lotto tickets from that store?

    Now every freak and his mother will buy tickets THERE… thinking it means something…

    (and I did so last Saturday evening, beFORE this big score happened)
