Congratulations! Sealth teacher DeAira Handugan to be honored during Seahawks game today

If you’re going to the SeahawksCowboys game at CenturyLink Field this afternoon – listen up for your chance to applaud a local teacher. Chief Sealth International High School family/consumer sciences teacher DeAira Handugan is scheduled to be there for an on-field presentation of her Heroes in the Classroom” award. Two former students nominated her; one is quoted as saying, “It is impossible to be in her presence and not look at her as a role model.” The award is presented by the Seahawks and Symetra, who present it to 16 teachers around the region each year; besides the recognition at today’s game, it also brings Handugan a $1,000 donation for classroom supplies.

Tracy Dart our amazing 3 Day warrior and survivor is also being honored at halftime for her multiple battles with cancer. She will be bringing Eric Kemp from the Admiral Benbow room with her on their walk out on the field. Just a heads up!

Great! Had not heard that. editor@westseattleblog.com (which is how we received word of DeAira Handugan’s honor) is always the best path to us … might not have been the case here, but some think that social-media mentions make it to the media too. Because of Facebook’s unfortunate policy of not showing all statuses to all followers, they often don’t. Maybe somebody will send a photo! – TR
