You can help: Invest in Youth seeks Roxhill Elementary tutors

One hour a day, one day a week – can you spare that to tutor a student? Invest in Youth needs tutors for Roxhill Elementary in West Seattle (and four others listed below if you work off the peninsula) –

Here’s your opportunity to give back. For one hour, just once a week on your way home from work, you can go into a nearby Seattle grade school and tutor a child who needs a little extra help with his or her studies. Invest in Youth is looking for additional tutors for the 2013 – 2014 school year.

Participating in Invest in Youth requires a tutoring commitment of one hour per week (with several holidays) for the duration of the school year. Upon joining the program, you will be paired with an elementary school student in 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th grade and work with that same student for the entire year, getting to know their strengths and weaknesses while tracking their progress from week to week. It is an extremely rewarding experience for both students and their tutors!

In 2013 – 2014 we will be working with the following schools:

· Mondays, Roxhill Elementary School (9430 30th Ave SW), 3:45-4:45pm (This is our second year at Roxhill!)
· Tuesdays, Beacon Hill International School (2025 14th Ave S.), 3:00 – 4:00 pm
· Tuesdays, Madrona K-8 School 3:45 – 4:45 pm
· Wednesdays, Daniel Bagley Elementary School (7821 Stone Ave. N.), 3:45-4:45pm
· Thursdays, Thurgood Marshall Elementary School (2401 S. Irving), 3:50-4:50pm

Orientation sessions for new tutors will take place the week of October 7th with tutoring beginning the week of October 14th and lasting through the end of May, 2014.

Invest In Youth is a business-to-youth tutoring program created in 1997 by financial advisor Harriett Morton. The program was originally designed for investment professionals who are often available after 3pm because of the early market closing on the West Coast, and has stayed true to its roots by providing a meaningful, time-efficient and effective way for local professionals to give back in their communities. Invest in Youth enhances the academic abilities, self-confidence and life prospects of struggling learners in the Seattle Public Schools. Last fall, we successfully matched more than 90 local elementary school students with Seattle-area professionals who gave them a little extra help with their studies each week. Demand for tutors from this highly effective program continues to increase and we are looking for more Seattle-area professionals to help meet the needs of these enthusiastic and deserving young students! We hope you can join us!

I was a tutor with this program last year and found it to be very rewarding and well worth my time. I am already signed up for this year and encourage anyone with the availability to sign up as well!

Sorry, comment time is over.
