Highland Park spraypark update: Just weeks away!

With this record-setting heat, we’ve been getting questions about when the city’s wading pools open. Schedule’s not out yet, but the short answer: Not till next month. The questions, however, inspired us to check in on the new addition to West Seattle’s outdoor aquatics scene this summer – the Highland Park Spraypark, going in at the site of the wading pool that’s hasn’t been open since 2008. Seattle Parks project manager Kelly Goold says the spraypark is currently on track for completion by the end of this month, and shared construction photos with WSB:

The top photo, he explains, “shows concrete being poured in one pad and forming for the next – concrete for this project is part of the final phase.” The second photo shows “the very cool bronze inlays that tie to the planetary theme of the spray-park.” As he notes, most of the work has been “in-ground; a lot of piping for the spray-park equipment.”

    What is a spray-park?

Rather than a static pool, kids get to run around in sprays of water that usually come from interactive features. Saves water and money (doesn’t require a city staffer to be there when it’s open). Sorry, thought I had linked the project site, am now – here’s the direct link:

I still think I’m a kid. Does that count? :)

So excited for this! We love the one in Tukwila, but nice to have one in our backyard as well!

That is just so cool. As so many of Seattle’s kid friendly attractions have disappeared in the McGinn regime, it is awesome to see a spray park going into our ‘hood.

The kids and I talked to the ‘workers’ building the HP sprayPark. They are the ones who did the Tukwila Spraypark. It will be amazing!!!

Hey, looks like this is going to be all “planet-y”! Yay!

We covered the design a couple years ago when they were having meetings. Indeed, it should be your world HQ. :)

Cool! PS the spray park at the Georgetown park is really cool too, and has a really nice playground next to it.

Sorry, comment time is over.
