Happening now: Graffiti-paintout volunteers in action

We found Ann Martin at 16th and Barton – one of the graffiti/tagging-beset spots that local volunteers are tackling right now with the graffiti-paintout project that set out after gathering at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center this morning:

This is just the first in a series of events – so if you weren’t able to help today, there’ll be other chances – e-mail Youngstown’s David Bestock to get in the loop – david@youngstownarts.org.

That 9061 / 9059 property gets tagged continuously, but I’m happy to also see it get painted over pretty quickly. I didn’t realize it was a volunteer contingent staying on top of it. Hopefully, the quick painting over will ultimately wear down the taggers. Thank you so much to those who painted today.

Wow that looks far worse than any graffiti ever could. Now, I hope that whomever is in charge of this is making sure that the “volunteers” are taught the difference between graffiti and street art. That they never cover over anything that has permission to be up. Any Street artists who have their work painted over by these “citizens” should feel free to contact me and I will do an interview with you on the Alternative Blog on the Post Intelligencer Culture Blogs.

Thank you Seattle Alternative Street Artists for making the Streets beautiful. I hope that this does not end up being a personal hassle to you.

Sorry, comment time is over.
