TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Monday on the move

(Live view from the east-facing WS Bridge camera; see other cameras on the WSB Traffic page)
5:58 AM: As we start a new week, there’s just one traffic alert for scheduled work: One more week with southbound 99 closed from Battery St. Tunnel to West Seattle Bridge, 10 pm-5 am tonight and each of the next three nights, for SODO overpass work.

7:25 AM: Multiple reports of a crash or stall on northbound 99 in the stadium zone – JayDee says it’s by Royal Brougham. Commenters say it’s a major backup – avoid 99.

7:43 AM: WSDOT just tweeted that the problem’s been cleared. Backup may take a while longer, though.

7:51 AM: Metro has just sent a text advisory:

Due to high volumes of traffic this morning, expect delays in transit service to downtown Seattle.

What is happening on 99 northbound?

  • jedifarfy January 28, 2013 (7:17 am)

As of 7:13, my 120 driver for permission to skip the viaduct. it’s completely backed up to the bridge. We don’t stop until downtown anyways. This driver’s pretty nifty.

99 is especially slow this Monday morning for some reason? 30 minutes from bridge and haven’t got to stadium yet. Bad juju to the random drivers that took the bus lane all the way!

  • Kp January 28, 2013 (7:27 am)

The traffic is really backed up on 99. There may be a stall but I can’t see it right now. I’ve been trying to get on to 99 for the last 5 minutes, but have been stuck on the on ramp. We were moving slowly, but now we’re not moving at all.

Its a 2 car fender-bender. Didn’t look serious but both drivers were standing outside their cars when I went by at 7:10. Left lane.

Traffic seems way slower this morning trying to get on NB 99 from EB WSBridge. It looks like NB 99 is at a standstill, but I can’t find any news about it, and Metro doesn’t seem to be rerouting buses yet.

  • Dan January 28, 2013 (7:29 am)

    Skip 99 – take 1st or 4th

  • Kp January 28, 2013 (7:32 am)

still very slow. Incident response towing truck just went by. There are also some cars who are driving in the bus only lane. Not fair for us who are waiting patiently.

Accident north 99 at 1st Ave merge. Took me 30 mins extra to get through.

  • Jen January 28, 2013 (7:34 am)

    Now Metro is re-routing.

  • Babs January 28, 2013 (7:54 am)

Stuck on RR trying to get on viaduct. After 15 minutes of standstill finally moving. Slowly. Have patience today.

  • Joe January 28, 2013 (7:55 am)

99 dead still, still. Been trapped on Rapid Ride on bridge/99 connector loop for 25 minutes. Send rescue dogs and alcohol.

As updated above – the problem cleared but as always, the residual backup takes a while …

  • KC January 28, 2013 (8:08 am)

RR full again this morning @ the junction. Not everyone able to board. Painful.

  • BP January 28, 2013 (8:13 am)

Btw, big thumbs down to KOMO radio whose traffic guy didn’t report on it until about 7:24 or so… by that time I had finally gotten to the accident scene and could see the tow truck taking the second car off with my own eyes. Traffic reporting fail!

Just made it Downtown via the WS Bridge and 99N, and it was pretty smooth sailing (for buses at least).

4th Ave S very slow going into town. Don’t know what’s going on.

  • Robert January 28, 2013 (10:40 am)

I think at one point the travel time board said 88 minutes to Green Lake via 99. Is that a record? :-)

  • WSratsinacage January 28, 2013 (11:15 am)

WSB, My 3 in a row above happened because I kept getting an error message on my mobile saying something like “your comment cannot be published at this time based on content.” Just wanted to let you know in case it is something with wordpress.

Hello, I’m a new West Seattle resident. Does anybody have experience as to how early to get onto RR Line C before overcrowding becomes an issue? How about if you’re commuting with a bike? I’d be getting on at the ferry terminal. Thanks in advance!

  • Wet January 28, 2013 (1:25 pm)

I understand their was an accident (an hour before I passed 35/Fauntleroy but does it always take a 1/2 hour to get on 99?

  • WSratsinacage January 28, 2013 (2:18 pm)

Wet, it takes me on average 30 minutes to get to I 5 .. I used to be able to drive to Issaquah from WS in 30 minutes..

Sorry, comment time is over.
