West Seattle underwater cleanup update: On to plastic

One more cleanup to note before the weekend’s out – this one, underwater. After weeks of bringing up old batteries (as featured on TV this past week), West Seattle diver/photographer Laura James and friends have moved on to plastic sheets/tarps that Laura says are littering the sea floor.

She’s not sure if plastics recyclers will be able to take the sheets, but she plans to check.

Laura and friends….THANK YOU! This is truely appreciated by all who enjoy our Sound and oceans. It’s sad to see how much human waste material you’re finding. We are a horrible species on this planet.

I’m guessing that whatever plastic they pull up from the bottom of the sound will be too dirty to recycle. I’ve found that plastic is one of those things that has to be pretty darn clean to be able to be recycled.

It’s amazing how much of an impact Laura and her fellow divers have been making on cleaning up Seacrest Cove! Over 1000 pounds of removed batteries and now other various trash. Keep up the good work!
