Traffic alert: West Seattle Bridge closures both ways

10:47 PM: There are bridge closures in both directions tonight, and that means backups at a time you may not expect them. It is the previously mentioned eastbound Spokane Street Viaduct closure, starting east of the 1st Ave South exit, plus another Fauntleroy Expressway Seismic Retrofit closure, affecting the entrance to the bridge from 35th and the westbound exits (you have to get off at Harbor Island or Delridge). Both should be done by 5 a.m.

12:38 AM UPDATE: Came through about half an hour ago and it appeared the Fauntleroy Expressway closure was temporarily suspended – cars were using the westernmost stretch of the bridge going both ways – but the webcams show the detour in effect again.

Has anyone noticed that the lack of white lane dividers on the westbound span is causing traffic problems? More than once I’ve been behind trucks or cars that assume it’s a single lane span. It’s adding to the evening commute backup (which, coming from I-5 North is already much worse than it ever used to be) and could be potentially dangerous.

Restriping has been accomplished and makes it much clearer as to who is to be where. Especially the merge coming off of South bound I-5 to the Spokane Street Viaduct.

I-5 south is horrible! I’ve been wondering about the lane dividers and the arrows for the lane coming down from Beacon Hill .. Glad they are getting re-painted, they wore off like a week after they were put on originally. BTW – does anyone know how much longer this “downgrade” is going on for this end of the Spokane ST viaduct? S*** is getting old! Thanks

Sorry, comment time is over.
