West Seattle Crime Watch: Suspected car prowler to watch for

From Tim within the past hour:

A man in a blue track suit just went down our block (7500 block of 46th Ave SW) testing car door handles. About 5’ 7-8”, medium complexion, w/short dark hair. 911 has been contacted.

Interesting – there was a car stolen from in front of our complex on Monday and we’re 4 or 5 blocks away from you. I wonder if that’s a coincidence.

Just saying. A good car alarm with some heavy-duty (100+ db ) sirens mounted in the passenger cabin can really take the fun out of car prowls/theft.

And whatever you do, if you MUST confront a potential criminal, think about your safety first.

Could these people come by my house and take my car away.

This description is similar to a man I caught doing the same thing in our Westwood neighborhood back in July. He walked down the middle of the road testing door handles on both sides of the street. He seemed to be just looking for something to steal – not actually trying to steal the car as I caught him get into my neighbors car and rummage through her things. (My husband went out to confront him as he exited the car while I called 911.) Anyway, this is a good reminder to ALWAYS lock your car door. It seems I was the only one to notice him and it was broad daylight on a Sunday afternoon.

Good reporting Tim. This man was caught and arrested. The car he had exited from was a reported King County stolen. When Neighbors are vigilant, and report things out of the ordinary, It helps SPD immensley…..:)
