Before we move on to West Seattle Summer Fest 2011 Day 2, we have a multitude of photos still to share from Day (and Night) 1 – above, of course, The Fastbacks’ reunion, and below, the crowd:

Summer Fest was full of unscheduled moments – like a Seattle Police sergeant atop Seattle Fire’s Ladder 11 as its ladder was extended during its visit alongside Junction Plaza Park:

Also extended: The arms of Feedback Lounge (WSB sponsor) co-proprietor Jeff Gilbert, in the midday sunshine:

Many more photos, after the jump:

Most exciting thing all day, the sun defied what had looked pre-festival like a gloomy Friday forecast:

All the better to sparkle off the glass creations Shannon Felix was selling at the Avalon Glassworks booth:

Even more art is up for sale, and on display, in the Art Dive, coordinated by Twilight Artist Collective:

You’ll find the West Seattle Hi-Yu “Sparkling Seattle” 2011 float close to the Art Dive:

(Bring a few dollars so you can buy a Hi-Yu button and support the organization!) Elsewhere, around Summer Fest, you never know who, or what, you’ll see. These chickens were in the GreenLife area:

Greenery can be found elsewhere, including cork recycling at Bin 41:

That’ll continue through the weekend. Unfortunately, popular kindie-rocker Caspar Babypants was one-time-only on Friday night – he and artist wife Kate Endle sold/signed CDs after he wowed the crowd:

Another showbiz sighting: ArtsWest director Alan Harrison:

His apprenticeship program is opening “Rocky Horror, The Musical,” next Wednesday (July 13th). And here, albeit unrelated to ArtsWest, a man putting on quite a performance:

Meantime, one thing you’ll find throughout the festival in the Info Booth (near us) is the official Summer Fest T-shirt, on sale:

Some places have raffles, like the Seattle Lutheran booth:

And even on the sidewalks, instead of in the central booth rows, it’s a great place to meet local businesspeople, like Brian Presser of TouchTech Systems:

And Frances Smersh from Click! Design That Fits (WSB sponsor):

Look for the West Seattle Christian Church booth, where you can buy cool sack-type water bottles, and get free refills throughout the festival:

We also spotted SPD Lt. Ron Smith, with some friendly little ones:

Meantime, we always invite candidates visiting Summer Fest to stop by the info booth so we can take and post their photo – here’s the first one we saw, Nick Esparza, who is running for school board:

Shortly afterward, City Council candidate Bobby Forch stopped by:

With the August 16th primary approaching, save these dates (more on the events later) – July 21st for a WS Chamber-sponsored forum on Seattle Referendum 1, and July 28 for an election forum handling almost everything/everyone on the ballot. But as for Summer Fest: In the end, it’s about the wonder of it all:

Summer Fest starts up again at 10 am; we’re in the Information Booth all weekend (till 8 tonight, which is when vendors are supposed to stay open till) along with reps from local neighborhood groups – come meet them! – plus the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce, and the West Seattle Junction Association‘s Summer Fest T-shirt sales, as well as stacks of free festival guides and other summer-event info.
