West Seattle’s ArtsWest has an offer for Intiman ticketholders

If you follow the regional theater scene, you have likely heard that the Intiman Playhouse has canceled the rest of its season, though it hopes for a comeback. West Seattle’s ArtsWest Playhouse is reaching out to ticketholders left in the lurch, offering them a chance to swap their Intiman tickets for admission to the next ArtsWest production, “Shipwrecked! An Entertainment,” which opens a week from Wednesday. Read on for the announcement:

In response to Intiman’s cancellation of its current season, ArtsWest Playhouse & Gallery has announced that they will honor Intiman tickets in exchange for tickets to their upcoming production of Shipwrecked! An Entertainment, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Donald Margulies (Dinner with Friends, Collected Stories). Shipwrecked! opens on Wednesday, April 27 and runs through Saturday, May 21, 2011 at ArtsWest (4711 California Ave SW, Seattle 98116). Intiman ticket holders should call the ArtsWest box office at (206) 938-0339 to reserve tickets; proof of ticket purchase to Intiman’s 2010-2011 season will be requested at the ArtsWest box office.

When asked about the plight of Intiman Theatre, ArtsWest’s Executive Director, Alan Harrison said, “Intiman is an iconic landmark in Seattle—we were both shocked and saddened to hear the news that one of Seattle’s best-known theaters is cancelling its season.”

Although ArtsWest is just eleven years young, the playhouse and gallery reached its single ticket sales goals four months ahead of schedule this season—a note-worthy feat for any theater in this current economic climate. On the subject of ArtsWest’s current success, Harrison replied, “Ticket sales are going well, but earned income only covers a portion of our budget. All non-profit arts organizations rely heavily on donations and look to their donors for sustainability. We want Intiman to know that we are here to help.” ArtsWest is offering tickets to Shipwrecked! as a one for one ticket exchange for all previously purchased and cancelled tickets to Intiman’s current 2010-2011 season, valid through May 21, 2011.

ArtsWest wraps up their season with Shipwrecked! An Entertainment based on the tales of Louis de Rougemont, a hoaxer who spellbound 19th century readers with his adventures as a castaway in the South Pacific—until it was revealed that his stories were likely fictional. In the book’s afterword, Margulies wrote that with Shipwrecked! he wanted to create “a play that would make no attempt to replicate onstage what television and movies do but would instead celebrate the uniqueness of theater.”

Christopher Zinovitch (Winner, 2010 Broadway World Awards, Best Direction of a Musical) will direct Shipwrecked! alongside his design team: Dan Schuy (set and props), Rob Witmer (sound), Margo Walker (costumes), and Josh Randall (lights). Zinovitch piloted the hugely successful Evil Dead: The Musical last fall and the production of Distracted, which ended earlier this month.
