Can you adopt the traffic circle at former Admiral sinkhole site?

If you were following the saga in February and March, you’ll recall a sinkhole by the traffic circle at Fairmount and Forest in Admiral turned into a three-story-deep pipe-replacement project. Now that work’s done, and the circle has been restored – but it needs some landscaping love, according to SDOT, which asked us to put the call out for a volunteer, since they don’t have anyone on record as tending to this spot:

We need a landscape volunteer for the traffic circle at Fairmount Ave SW and SW Forest Street. For those who are interested, or may be interested in becoming a landscape volunteer for other traffic circles in the City of Seattle, please contact Joshua Erickson with SDOT’s Urban Forestry Section at (206) 684-5008 or via e-mail at joshua.erickson@seattle.gov.

Please, please, please – do not plant shrubs that get too high so you can’t see over them. Some of these circles, though very beautiful, are down right dangerous because you can’t see what’s on the other side. And though I always follow the circle to the right – many people don’t, they like to take that quick left – it can be a little scary…. same goes with planting on the parking strip at corners. :-( too bad because I love the plants and flowers!

Adopt West Seattle and more importantly Our Puget Sound. Next time you are out for a walk rescue that aluminum can from the storm drain. Borrow the broom and dust pan from that tavern or pub you frequent and sweep up the cigaret butts out front. Have a wonderful day. :~)

I believe that the people who live to the northeast corner of that traffic circle were taking care of it. There were flowers planted in the circle before they tore it up and they seem to be the only gardening types right in that area. Although, they might not have been on the official record to take care of it, they (or someone was) were.

I would suggest ground cover, that way it wouldn’t impair the sight for drivers.

Please drivers, just use it properly. People cut around the one on Director and 45th near Fauntleroy hall and end up coming head on, in the wrong lane on a blind corner up Director. Making deliveries from this site I would say 50% of folks don’t go around. I can’t tell you how many smiling, polite and embarrassed folks have almost smashed our truck.

Sorry, comment time is over.
