Northwest Art and Frame loses a longtime feline friend

If you didn’t already see this on Northwest Art and Frame‘s Facebook page – they thought more people might want to know about a sad loss that customers will notice too:

Sad news to report…our beloved store cat, Art has passed on into kitty heaven this last Saturday. He was deeply loved and touched the lives of so many in the West Seattle community and beyond for years and will be sadly missed. He spent most of his life offering excellent customer service to all of our great customers and has been spending the last few years in retirement living with store owners Dan & Jeri. He loved you all very much and will be greatly missed!

Art spent a dozen years in the store.

    Dan, Jeri & Staff,
My sympathy to you, Art was a great part of NWAF and the Junction. I am sad to hear of his passing…he was awesome. We all have many great memories of him and his creative ways to get attention. He truly thought he ran the store! I hope he had a great last few years in retirement.

I am so sorry for your loss. He was such a sweet handsome boy and always made me smile.

Dan, Jeri, Staff & Customers, Sad to hear of Art’s passing and so glad I got to know him. Spent many a time sitting by his ‘bed’, petting him and chatting about the mice he kept out of the building. Thank you for rescuing & adopting Art from the back parking lot when he was a scrawny little kitten that needed a kind human and because of you, he got an entire community. One lucky cat; a lot of lucky humans.

My husband and I always enjoyed seeing Art in the store. I once asked how he got his name. I was told he had been abandoned by a carnival so they gave him the name “Art Carney”.

RIP, Art. I always enjoyed seeing him when I went to NWA&F and I missed him once he “retired.” It’s sad to see him pass, but he had a good life and many friends. We should all be able to say the same.

By the way, it would be cool to see a piece on all the shop cats in WS; Seth at WS Nursery and Moses at Next-to-Nature come to mind right off the bat, but I know there are others.

Art was the best period ! He could make a great day even better and a not so great day seem not so bad. He had a very special way about him. I am glad that my sister and I were a big part of his life because he was certainly a big part of ours. It has been an honor to care for him. He is in our hearts forever. We love you Art,Jeri and Dan xoxoxoxoxo
    Love,
    The sisters

What a gorgeous cat. How did I never see him? I’m sorry he’s gone, but it sounds like he received (and gave!) a lot of love in his time.

That is sad, I loved that shop kitty, he certainly endeared me to the store. I hope he gets a spot for memorial in the store. I know he is missed so much by those that were his human family. RIP.

I’m really sorry to hear about ART! He was a good little guy. The loss of a pet is always so hard.

I am so SAD. Art was an inspiration and he is deeply missed. But I know that he has his very own big giant brown paper covered table to lounge on up in heaven.

It breaks my heart, but how amazing that this cat touched so many lives. Art was very lucky to have you.

I remember that cat…he was always just hanging around…even if you weren’t in the best of moods, that cat would always bring a smile to your face… that’s what animals are for. Happiness!

My condolences to your family. Anyone who has ever been touched by a wonderful pet will agree that they are just like a human and an integral part of any family who appreciates the company of an animal.

    xoxo

I remembered your cat directly. He was very friendly and we always wondered where he was when we were there.

In the words of the former UW football coach:

    You had a GREAT cat.

    Dan, Jeri & Staff,

Thank you for providing Art a home, both during his “working years” and in retirement. You gave him such a great life and he in turn improved the life of everyone he encountered. He was a joy to see at the store.

Condolences to Dan, Jeri, and the store staff.
