If you use Highway 99 to commute past the Battery Street Tunnel, you’ll want to know about these lane closures coming up – read on:

From WSDOT:

Drivers should plan for delays on SR 99 at Ward Street just north of the Battery Street Tunnel starting Monday, March 8 and ending on Thursday, March 11. Crews will close lanes to do preparation work for a new overhead sign bridge, which will span both directions of SR 99 and will support two electronic message boards. Crews will return this spring to install the sign bridge.

Monday, March 8

* Crews will close two of three left lanes on southbound SR 99 at Ward Street from 6 p.m. until 5 a.m.
* Crews will close the far left lane of northbound SR 99 at Ward Street from 6 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Wednesday, March 10 and Thursday, March 11

* Crews will close the far left lane of northbound and southbound SR 99 at Ward Street. The northbound lane will be closed from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. The southbound lane will be closed from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. This work is weather dependent. If the weather remains dry on Wednesday, crews may not need to close lanes on Thursday.

This work is part of the SR 99 Intelligent Transportation Systems project. WSDOT is working in partnership with the Seattle Department of Transportation to bring more real-time traffic information to drivers on SR 99, and major routes leading to SR 99 in Seattle. New overhead message boards will provide drivers with traffic information such as construction closures, lane status and travel times. WSDOT will install six overhead electronic message signs on SR 99 from the First Avenue S. Bridge to N. 145th Street in Shoreline.

Installing real-time traffic information systems now will help keep traffic moving during construction to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct.
