8 days till July 4th: Rules for fireworks, and where to see them

Driving through White Center this afternoon, we noticed fireworks stands like that one set up in a few spots. In unincorporated King County and the few other places where personal fireworks are still legal, they go on sale at noon Sunday, but you’re only allowed to use them 9 am-midnight on July 4th (except for Normandy Park, where the use period is the same as the sales period). Here’s the full King County list of fireworks rules – note they are banned in Seattle and in Burien, which is relevant to part of White Center, since that means a change if the “North Highline South Annexation” proposal passes in the August 18th election. And if somehow you haven’t heard, reminder, NO Elliott Bay fireworks on the Fourth, since Ivar’s canceled them; if you’re still trying to decide where to go instead, here’s the full statewide list of fireworks shows.

So frustrating that a few careless people cause the rest of us to forego any fireworks celebration, even the “safe and sane” type. I realze that there are some idiots who think it’s okay to light fireworks in dry grass fields, next to abandoned houses full of old newspapers but come on…..

The pre 4th of July announcement by the Seattle Police Dept that they would not be responding to fire works violations last year was rediculious! This announcement gave all the fireworks nuts total immunity for any violations. Living ajacent to any city park was like living in a war zone. Perhaps if we could get SPD and SFD to cruze the neighborhoods instead of watching sun bathers on Alki and Golden Gardens we could actually have a “Safe and Sane” Independence Day

WSB, has there been an official release by law enforcement agencies in regards to whether or not they’ll respond to fireworks violations this year? Last year was a little ‘over the top’ here on Alki insofar as the crowds and big firecrackers were concerned (perhaps the crowd won’t be so large with the cancellation of the Ivar’s show?).
