West Seattle snow aftermath: Friday night-overnight notes

Just checked in on Twitter for the first time in a few hours and found this note from mid-evening: “Two snowplows just arrived in High Point! 30th ave hill cleared” – so if you’re still awaiting relief on your street, keep the faith. Rain, wind, and warmer temperatures are in the forecast for days to come, which should help too.

I called 386-1218 and finally got thru about an hour ago. I told her about the mess around 100th and 42nd SW, and the woman I spoke to said that there had been alot of calls from the Arbor Height neighborhood, that there was a truck out near AH and they would be our way in the near future.

Until then, 42nd SW south of 100th is still a mess. Please be careful and please slow down.

I’m hearing a large engine, scraping noises, and the beep-beep large vehicles make when they’re backing up. Could it possibly be a snowplow at this hour??

That’s what they sounded like every time they were at the two-arterials corner by our house in these past 2 weeks. Either one of the plow trucks, or even that big grader.

Snow plow rolling down 9th Ave SW and surrounding side streets right now…

  • datamuse December 27, 2008 (12:33 am)

That must’ve been it, I’m just off 9th!

Sorry to be snarky, but they’re just *now* clearing the side streets, and we’re supposed to be grateful?

  • Sue December 27, 2008 (6:18 am)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU to whoever is plowing in front of my house on SW Elmgrove.

  • Morganlf December 27, 2008 (6:29 am)

Just an FYI, 39th and Elmgrove just got plowed. What a wonderful sound.

That’s our highly efficient SDOT planning- plow when it reaches 40 degrees….

i am also sorry to be snarky.. but i just spoke to someone from Portland who is iced in…

they did plow her street.. then the piles on the side melted onto the street and froze…
she has a skating rink an inch thick outside… and i don’t think she is much higher than we are…

maybe it was better to wait until they didn’t get worse instead of better…

Sigh for living just on the other side of Roxbury…

Is it greedy to want UPS just because it’s mainly stuff for me (from my mom and myself)? :P Could I claim it might cure my knee?

We got a UPS delivery yesterday and not only did we get our package from my Aunt but we got the neighbors package who lives on the next block. Same address different street. Called them last night and then called UPS today. So either my neighbors will call me by Monday or UPS will call and arrange to pick it up.

I finally got through to the sdot snowplow # last night about 8pm, to put in my request again for Hinds, from California to 37th, has never been plowed; I really did not expect it to happen, pretty sure the melt will happen before they ever get here; my car has been snowed in 14 days now, and once the snow melts, I need a jump start

instead we had another visit at our apts from fire dept, because apt mgr went on vacation for 2 weeks, seems there is no property manager doing anything here, the walkway is treacherous, snow shovel locked in maintenance closet (grrr), and the ancient central fire alarms keep going off; with no mgr onsite to turn off, we again were visited by 2 firetrucks abut 11pm

Clearing off the alley stormdrains and clearing my driveway paid off! Overnight the flooding and ice dams cleared, only had to shovel a track in one spot, and I can drive! YAY!

Another UPS misdelivery here… they could mis-deliver my neighbor’s package to me, but couldn’t deliver the package I’m still waiting for? Lame.
    .
And FedEx is WORSE — they’ve been “trying to deliver” (*cough*) my package since DECEMBER 18TH. Could they possibly work overtime to get out the overdue pre-Christmas packages? No, of course not.
    .
USPS is only marginally better. Flat mail keeps arriving in the box, but packages aren’t making it. I don’t understand that one. Our driveway is steep, but we’ve been keeping it clear — in part because of the expected packages!

Grrr. As much as I love snow, I’m ready for this to end. Yesterday I was tempted to take a picture of the still uncleared and still treacherous streets near my home and send them to Mayor Nickels, asking him if he thought he could get to my house to pay me a visit.

I’m still waiting for USPS envelope/paycheck that was mailed from Wallingford on Monday; yet I received envelope from Viewridge yesterday that was mailed Wed; very mysterious

  • hopey December 27, 2008 (1:51 pm)

Color me surprised. USPS package came. And FedEx came! On a Saturday! Let’s see if I score the trifecta today or not…

  • JH December 27, 2008 (10:03 pm)

Fedex came to my door today with my package! Yay!

Sorry, comment time is over.
