Trapped driver rescued from crash near 47th and Andover

From WSB contributing photojournalist Christopher Boffoli:

Christopher reports:

Call went out as a “rescue automobile.” A vehicle driven by a single occupant apparently came down Andover at a high rate of speed, lost control and bounced off the curb before striking a parked van. The owner of the house said he was inside at the time and only heard the sound of the impact. They came out to find the driver trapped in his car with the airbags deployed. SFD responded and pulled the man out the passenger side before strapping him to a backboard and transporting him to the hospital. He was conscious as they loaded him into the ambulance.Police would not say if alcohol or drugs were a factor. Police were still on the scene at 9 a.m. waiting for a tow truck to remove the car.

To give you some perspective, here’s a photo from Nick (thank you!) who got the bird’s-eye view:

here’s a map of the area where this happened.

Ahh, my old neighborhood. I remember cars flying down Andover…and the droves of bass-thumping cars that visited the crack house near the corner.

Yeah, the late 80’s. Good times. :-(

Just a matter of time. This is why I always take Genessee or Charlestown. People don’t understand uncontrolled intersections.

My old neighborhood. I thought that the addition of stop signs on the cornder might decrease the wrecks.

Did the raccoons ever stop burying meat in the yard near Andover and 46th?

What is it with you all picking on Jettas? I have one, and drive like a little ol’ lady from Pasadena and I’m not even old…OK, I’m pushing 60. The little speed demons I see on the road, cutting everyone off are NOT driving VWs. They can’t afford such a nice European car. How ’bout giving us Jetta folks a break…..;)Peace out….

There’s weird car-ma out there today (ooh, groan). Seriously, first on I-5 I drove by a guy on the side of the road who had lost an entire wheel, then on 99 someone changing a tire, now this. The wheel/tire people weren’t Jettas, by the way, lol, swimcat. But just a good reminder to pay attention and chill out a little…

Wha?! I live near this corner . . . what do i need to know?

MellyMel-In 1997 the West Seattle Herald did a story about someone in the neighborhood that kept finding packages of meat buried in his yard. Turned out the culprits were raccoons, not local pranksters. The question remained, where were the raccoons getting the meat? Did someone have an unlocked fridge or freezer outside?

I live near this corner and his car is facing towards the hill, not away from it. Did he spin around 180 degrees before hitting the van? If not, he was on about 3-4 blocks of flat streets. Very odd.

Sorry, comment time is over.
