Update: Grand-reopening day for locksmith hit by arson

We stopped in a while ago to check back with Michael Dein, who told WSB over the weekend (previous coverage here) that he would be reopening Puget Sound Key and Lock in Morgan Junction today, four and a half months after the as-yet-unsolved arson attack that gutted his shop – this photo was taken that day:

A month after the fire, West Seattle Blog Forum members put on a benefit to raise money to help him reopen; today he wanted to thank them – and he also told us his new start is off to a good start:

As reported over the weekend – he is giving back to the community, by offering a special service for domestic-abuse victims (read about it in our Saturday report). Puget Sound Key and Lock is at 6016 California SW, on the north edge of Morgan Junction.

This is great news! West Seattle is a wonderful place to live and the community rocks!
I am just wondering what ever happened to the business right next door, it looks like it got damaged during the fire as well…

He told us at the time that things weren’t too badly damaged there – but we’ll check and add to the above story. Thanks.

Kuddos to you for the service you will be offering Domestic Violence victims.
When I was 12 my best friend mother was killed by her husband after a restraining order was put in place against him. We knew it was him due to the lack of forced entry, he still had a key to the house. Thank you for using your talent as a locksmith to help people in horribly situations.

Congrats Michael! And thanks for the nice “thank you”. That will be a great resource and source of assistance to the DV communtiy. I’m not invloved in that community, just deeply admire your desire to help!
    .

Sadly, I was unable to help in any of the fund raising, though I greatly wanted too.

    .

Maybe the best I can do now, is to continue to tell people of your experience, the WSB Community asstistance, and your generous “payback”.

    .

And speaking of the WSB Community, I’ve been telling staff, visitors, anyone that will let me talk their ear off, about WSB.

    .

How it evolved from a rather standard blog, into it’s current form. I’ve also talked about the reader community, that especially with the creation of the forums.

    .

I’ve been using Michael’s situation as an excellent example. I still am stunned at the seemingly instantaneous response of the one WSBer, once TR posted about the fire on the blog, and how the WSBer started the forum thread to get the ball rolling on fundraising.

    .

Every one involved should be extremely proud of themselves!

    .

    Mike

Congratulations Michael Dein, and here’s to you for being so determined to re-open and being an integral member of the community. Also, I’ve got crap locks and will probably be calling soon… :-)

Sorry, comment time is over.
