Welcome to the newest WSB sponsor: Quid’•nunc

This morning, we send out the traditional WSB sponsor welcome to Quid’•nunc (4522 California in The Junction), West Seattle’s best-known computer store. Here’s what the folks from Quid’•nunc want you to know: “Quid’•nunc has been serving West Seattle for 13 years with computer hardware, software, and accessories plus repair and networking services. Our goal is to provide you with quality products and service which will ensure reliable computer operations for you. We are always available to answer questions or offer advice. In the last year, we hired a great team of computer technicians. billh.jpgWe are now offering on-site services for you and your business. If you need a part-time computer pro, please give us a call. We can set up a unique service contract to ensure your network runs safely and efficiently. Bill Hibler, owner of Quid’•nunc, [photo left] is a West Seattle local. He has lived here for 19 years. He is a member of the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce, the Westside Professionals – a BNI networking organization, a past president of the West Seattle Junction Association, a member of the board of trustees of ArtsWest, and a member of the board of Trusteed Properties, which owns and manages the free parking lots in the Junction. Bill is dedicated to the health and growth of our community. He lives, works and plays in West Seattle. He is an avid reader, cyclist and gardener. He regularly sponsors the West Seattle Garden Tour and hopes to have his own yard on the tour someday. Quid’•nunc has consistently supported the fundraising activities of local schools and churches and is a regular sponsor of West Seattle Girls Softball. A few years ago, Quid’•nunc was looking for a simple slogan to help people remember the store. We felt so strongly about ‘Quid’•nunc–Where PC means Personal Care®’ that we registered it as a Washington State trademark.” (Check the ad in the right sidebar for a special offer.) Thanks to Quid’•nunc and our other sponsors for supporting WSB; if you want to find out how to join them, here’s the place to start.

I love that this place still looks exactly like an early 80’s era computer store. Throw a few TRS-80’s and some Activision game cartridges up on those shelves and it would be an instant time warp. With all of the big box electronics stores nowadays it is somewhat of a small miracle that these guys are still around. But I guess as long as our friends in Redmond keep spending billions of dollars to pump out crappy operating systems, these guys will continue to do well.

A big welcome to them…I love that they’re supporting you, the community, us…and they’re successful because they do support the community, and the community gives back…kudos all around :)

I had a very different experience a Quid nunc last year. I purchased a computer from them with the understanding that it was new, only to find out that it had someone elses photos on it. When taking it back, I was assured that the computer would be re-immaged (everything erased and re-installed) it was not. They only erased the pictures which still resided on the computer. Not only would they not give me a discount on the clearly used computer but they did not fix it. They are dishonest and a waste of valuable time. After countless hours of my own time spent with technical support from the computer company, attempting to make the lap top work correctly, it was ultimately sent back to the depot. Thanks Quid Nunc! You’re the Worst!!!!!

I’m still trying to figure out why they are called Quid nunc. I took 6 years of Latin and so I know it means “What now?”, but how does that apply to a computer store?

  • acemotel February 13, 2008 (1:47 pm)

cause you’ve tried everything you can to get your HP printer to print a pdf file, and at some point, you say: what now!???!!”

Karen, did you contact the owner Bill about your experience?

Sadly, I had a bad experience there, too. I brought in a laptop for repair and after two weeks they still hadn’t looked at it. The service person, in the presence of two other employees, told me they didn’t look at laptops in the order received, rather some people pay for priority service and everytime that happened, my laptop moved lower on the list. He couldn’t tell me when they’d get to it, unless I paid for priority service. This was about a year ago. I’m not sure if they still have the same policy, but it didn’t seem very customer service friendly. Come to thik of it, the entire experience made me think, “What now?” So….I took my laptop back and went elsewhere.

Aidan: Thanks for that original and interesting observation about Microsoft. It really helped the conversation here. Good thing nobody who works for the crappy OS company pumps money into West Seattle.

  • Jen V. February 13, 2008 (4:04 pm)

Karen- I had that happen too with a used computer (we knew it was used) there about 9 years ago…and let’s just say that the pictures were….racy….so it was more funny than anything else. I love Quidnunc and am happy that they are still a part of WS after all these years!

Quidnunc is great in its quirky little way. They’ve come to my rescue on several occasions and I’ve picked up some equipment there at great prices. Love having them in the neighborhood!

BobLoblaw: Thanks for the lesson in the end justifies the means. That crappy OS company could pump billions into the local economy and it still would not equal the worldwide financial losses in the form of productivity and innovation that are a result of customers having to deal with its horrible products.

this joint has bad reviews on Yelp but I went there regardless to fix a problem with popups and porn that a guest left on my laptop.
AT FIRST….things did not go well. I got the sytem back in disrepair after I already paid and it was uncomfortable for everyone at home (the neice) when popup porn came on the screen. I was pissed to say the least. I took the unit back to the shop looking for resolve.
    This is what happened next:
The owner came out of the back room and took over the case. I could tell he was busy doing something different but he didnt let that get in his way. His staff had messed up but he didnt yell, in fact he carefully showed them how to avoid the problem in the future. He treated me with genuine concern and really a true sense of care. I was deeply impressed.
I had troubles with the place in the beginning and Im a hardass about good service but these boys are true blue. I recommend them to everyone and anyone.
Good service is being able to take a problem guest such as myslef, with a big time bad attitude and turning that very guest into a beleiver and defender. They get my vote and my dollars every time.
Quid Nunc is where you need to go.

Another bad experience story to add to the list. I went into buy some anti-virus software and when I was walking out of the front door I noticed that the cd envelope had been opened so I went back to counter and showed it to the clerk and she said it was just opened by mistake and to just bring it back if I had any problems. She also said it was the last disc of anti-virus software that they had in stock. Of course when I tried to download the software it didnt work, then when I went to return it, the store would not give me a refund. Pretty sad since I would much rather support a small local business than a major national chain, but obviously would never shop here again.

As much as I’d love to continue our discussion, Aidan, I’m reminded once again that arguing on the Internet is like winning in the Special Olympics. Sure, you get a medal. But you’re still retarded.

    Hey, BobLoblaw, not nice!

This is for all customers that had a bad experience with Quidnunc especially Karen Morgan, Jen V, Dan Davis and Bobloblaw.

My name is Mohamed and as March 27th 0f 2008 I’m the new owner of Quidnunc, I’m sorry to hear that Quidnunc had upset some customers but I like to assure everyone that I will do my best to give west Seattle a reliable, honest and professional computer store.
I have over 18 years experience in computer service, I owned my companyfor more than 11 years and I always beleived that customer satisfaction is a must to succeed in any business.
I own 2 other computer stores in Seattle where I serviced more than 21000 customers so far and my company keeps growing and expanding by the day.
Before I purchased Quidnunc, Bill Hibler was very honest and made it clear to me that there maybe some upset customers out there and I knew it but I’m very confident that the service quality will be only better now.

Sorry, comment time is over.
