Alki Urban Market open for business

alkiurbanmarket1.jpg

As promised yesterday, the new market/deli opened first thing this morning (2820 Alki Ave, east of 63rd, same building as Cactus and All the Best Pet Care). ADDED 9:22 AM: Here’s a 30-second video look inside. Seems pretty much as described when we interviewed the owner for this article last month.

Wow, that’s really cool and prompt reporting, WSB.
    Nice job.
I’m stopping by on my way home from work today.

I love the WSB “stalker cam”! Just needs some ominous background music… :)

Looks a lot bigger than you’d assume from the outside.

Dropped by there over the early afternoon timeframe – said hello to the staff and browsed the entire place. I will definitely be back and from the look of their deli case they probably make a mean sandwich or panino, certainly the Boar’s Head products help in this regard. Wine and beer selection looked good, as did the chocolates by the checkout area. Overall, a much-needed addition to the Alki Beach scene. Very pleasant and friendly staff, too.

Where is the rack of cheesy porn and 22’s of Bud Ice?

Todd, the ShortStop on California. Closer than Alki for you…

Stopped by on my way home from work.
It seemed like old home week: met Cami (we recognized each others’ names from WSB), Bonnie (Alki Bon) was there buying ice cream, neighbor Mary came in, chatted with wine guy that also sold to Alki Market when I worked there.
The deli guy’s name is Yong. He was smiling alot. Thampay, the owner, is very personable and open to suggestions, requests, etc. He said people had been in all day long introducing themselves. He looked VERY HAPPY!
The sandwich selection sounds great. Oh, boy, a Reuben sandwich again here on Alki.
And, who was it that wanted deli dill pickles? There weren’t any yet, the jar was empty, but they’ll be in the deli case. Yeaaaahhhh!
And that pastry selection is exquisite.
    Check it out!

I ordered the Uptowner panini to go… got home opened the bag and the panini wasn’t grilled at all! Isn’t a panini supposed to be smooshed between hot grilling thing? I didn’t watch the lady make my sandwich or I would have mentioned the smoosh grilling part. But it was still a good sandwich. Glad to have a grocery store that I can walk to!

I stopped there after work today and was given a tour of the store by the very gracious owner, Thampay, who I met about two weeks ago Good breads, bacon, eggs, fresh fruit, quality snacks and condiments, deli food, wine… the selection is great. My only suggestions to my neighbors are to diligently support this business and take your reusable shopping tote bags when you go. Tonight I purchased several items which I took walked home in a large brown paper bag and I wished I had my canvas tote that I use when I take the bus to Safeway. Even I am very pleased with this new addition to our neighborhood.

According to WasteWater, the ShortStop on California is “just steps away from Alki”.

Oh my gosh – I’m SOOO excited. One of the other markets on the Seattle Urban Market site is my FAVORITE place to get sandwiches for lunch when I’m at work. I’m so happy that there’s now one [almost] outside my door.

I’m just glad WasteWater is now turning the condo lights off at night. What a waste of electricity!
