Short Stop sign is now a little less “adult”

Remember our August discussion about the Morgan Junction Short Stop sign adding “adult DVDs”? Until “West Seattle Dishes to Die For,” it was the talkiest WSB post ever. Now, a new chapter in this sign’s story — crash damage that even took off part of the word “adult.” Evan Baumgardner sent the photo (thank you!); the folks at the store told Evan this happened when a delivery truck hit the sign.

I just can’t figure out how that place stays in business. ugh..what an eyesore.

You know, I never noticed that before. Mostly because the Short Stop is one of those places that are so icky, I’d never go in, and therefore, I never even look at it.

Today was my first time ever going inside there. For the longest time I even wondered if that place was even open or not. It’s actually a pretty decent sized store, with a wide selection of items, including stuff I had never seen before. I can see the outside putting people off, but inside I was actually pretty impressed just from the quick look around I did. I completely forgot to see just how large of a section of porno they had though. Oh well, next time. The thing I found odd was the incredibly large selection of knives (and a couple of swords) they had in a case at the front of the store, right after you walk in. I’m going to have to give the Short Stop two thumbs up from my total of 2 minutes in there buying a bottle of Mountain Dew and asking the guy what happened to the sign. The place has a lot of character which is what I love to see in local shops. I’ll definately check it out again. It’s also much nicer inside than the outside would have you think.

Perhaps the same delivery truck could target other areas of the building until it’s all gone.

Agree that it’s an eyesore, and the weapons case is unsettling (not to mention the borderline illegal items in the case), but the guys that run the place (and the laundry next door) are real nice, and until recently they had the best teriyaki in WS. I kid you not.

I think The Strata sales reps took matters into their own hands. Maybe they just figured out that having a boarded up bar AND adult videos across the street might not be good for business with their preview coming up this weekend!

They should just place the sign higher when they remove this one, otherwise it’s just doomed to be smashed each time they replace it!

I agree with Evan. For the longest time I just assumed the place was a dump. But I stopped in one night and found the place to have a huge selection of items arranged rather well in a clean decent space. Their beer selection is the best of any convenience store in West Seattle, even better than Thriftway or Metropolitan Market. Tons of microbrews and imports to choose from.

The porn section is well hidden and the clerk was quite friendly. The knives and swords were a bit surreal, though, in a Pulp Fiction sorta way.

This place rocks, should every part of West Seattle become sanitized and to me boring,I know West Seattle has to change… but I loved and love West Seattle because its NOT Magnolia or upper Queen Ann, old West Seattle is almost gone? Should West Seattle be all Metropolitan Market, PCC, Box Stores, Condos,Sanitized Little Boxes for pretty people to display themselves. To me this place is just fine!

    And they have PORN!
