Coffee for a cure

Brand X may be giving away music, but Tully’s is giving away money. To a good cause, that is. Starting today, through the end of the month, Tully’s is donating part of the proceeds from several items — including an Alki Bakery-created cookie — to the battle against breast cancer. (Tully’s has two WS locations, Fauntleroy/Cali and Alki across from the Bathhouse.)

    Brand X?

  • WSB October 3, 2007 (8:09 am)

We meant as in Brand (SBU)X.

Yeah, boy, that Starbucks is a terrible, terrible company. Don’t want to mention them.

Oh but we have, countless times. Even mentioned the free-music thing a week or two back when it was first announced.

whichever the name Brand X is supposed to mean, Tully’s is by far a better tasting and better all around coffee company. I feel lucky to have two of their coffee houses in my neck of the woods. Here’s hoping Starbuck’s doesn’t run them out…

Sorry, SBUX is Starbucks’ stock-ticker abbreviation. We’ll have to quit being obscure, obtuse, cutesy, etc., too much unclarity in the world anyway. As for SBUX running Tully’s out, the Tully’s at Fauntleroy/Cali has been across the street from a Starbucks for a few years now and seems to be surviving OK. Perhaps one of the mega-developments coming to SW Alaska will even get another Tully’s, since we already know The Junction is about to get another SBUX.

WSB..remember that the Tully’s at Calif/Fauntleroy was a SBUX cafe before it was a Tully’s…just across the street from their other place…and it didn’t make it….I don’t think Tully’s has to worry :)

I am a P R O U D West Seattleite, I shop locally, I know my neighbors, I spent m a n y years working in West Seattle business’, I opened the first Starbucks In West Seattle a n y of the customers (many of which are some of my best friends still after all these years) I had when I was at the store would have told you what a friendly & community oriented environment we had built together. It miffs me when folks bash the Bucks!!!! It’s too easy! Tully’s is doing a g r e a t thing contributing to finding a cure for breast cancer. Would ANY of you like to take a guess at how much money & volunteer hours have been donated from all of us at Starbucks to help various causes. Including breast cancer cures. Most of the time you will never hear about our fund raising efforts as we believe in keeping a very low profile about charitable acts, and honestly, I a bit ashamed that I could not contain my displeasure with the common uneducated stance on the good that Starbucks does. I just couldn’t help myself today. Having said that, again, to Tully’s, great job!!!

Why are people sounding nasty on this blog all of the sudden? This is a great place for sharing info about our beloved West Seattle, not take jabs at the fine people who work so hard to update this. Be kind folks.

Just got back from Morgan Thriftway. If you want to grind and brew your own they’re selling whole bean coffee with a ‘Coffee for a Cure’
label. The store is donating $1 per pound purchased.

It’s roasted by http://www.specialtyroast.com/, free trade organic.

You’re right, Foxy Diamond – it *is* too easy to bash the Bucks.

So….back to the original WSB post..whatever your choice of beverage usually is, I, as a 2+ year BC survivor, would like to thank each of you that contributes to this cause of finding a cure. While the prognosis is good for those breast cancers that are caught early, there still is no CURE, despite what you may see or hear in the media. Again, thank you…

Couple of points. I think the Tully’s at Morgan Junction (aka Fauntleroy/Cali) has a “slightly” better environment for lingering and for meetings. The Starbucks across the street doesn’t really have any “private-like” areas. I like both that one and the one on Alki. I do see most of the bus drivers, police officers and city folks hanging at the Starbucks at Alki across from Miss Liberty. I’ve often wondered why these same folks didn’t want to hang out at Alki Bakery but I think the reason is that Alki Bakery’s windows open to the outside and you can see out and you can see in. The Starbucks windows are a darker tint and the indoors is darker meaning anyone inside can’t be easily seen from the outside. Now it makes sense.

I’m pleased we’ve got two Uptowns, a Ladro, a Vita, and a Diva, speaking of local coffee powerhouses.

And I knew Starbucks is a good community player, there’s a park in White Center where they’re contributing I think over $100K for improvements in a much needed area of town.

Sorry, comment time is over.
