Maybe Queen Anne would have been a better example

Our websearch for WS news turned up the following quote in this story from Spokane. We’re scratching our heads because honestly, even with the condos and townhouses, we still think WS is far from a horror story.

“My vision of Spokane Valley is not to look like West Seattle in 30 years,” (Spokane) Councilman Rich Munson said

You suppose we can get our WS-dwelling mayor and councilmember to call him up and tell him to stop dissing us?

people in Spokane actually know where West Seattle is? I suppose we could start a “tourist” campaign over there, send T-shirts, or something…but..if they come here they have to stay with us because of the shortage of hotel rooms…hehe. I’ve never been to Spokane…never had any reason to go – so I can’t comment on their city…butI’ve heard it’s flat and boring…not like here at all :)

and…we can’t access the full article…seems that the Spokesman Review wants money to read their paper online…that’s what I was told when I tried to sign up. I’m not a valid “print subscriber”, they say. Oh, well…

As a WSU alum, I’ve been to Spokane many times. I can say that practically no one in Spokane knows the names of Seattle neighborhoods (and vice versa). The councilman is taking advantage of this with his ignorant statement.

Yeah – someone from Spokane told me that people there say “We’re going to the coast” and they mean Seattle! So West Seattle is almost certainly not on their radar, and if it is, they probably think it’s Canada :)

Eureka ! They let me sign on and read the article…I take back the nasty thoughts ;)

Our family lives in Spokane and visits here often, and the thing that gets them the most is the traffic, whether Calif. Ave or the side streets. My sis covers her eyes when she sees the cars heading at us, playing chicken, until one of us gives. They’re just not used to density.

I’ll bet he’s just directionally challenged, i.e. he really meant his vision is not for Spokane Valley to look like Seattle *East*.

What the heck??? I’m baffled by his comment. I’m originally from Spokane. The valley is one big sprawling strip of auto-dealers and track housing with no feeling of community. There’s no way it could ever be as nice as West Seattle. I don’t recall any parks, let alone anything as nice as Lincoln Park, and, of course, there are no beautiful beaches along the puget sound. Absolutely baffling.

This is funny! I lived in Spokane and visit family about once or twice a year. The valley is terrible, the most night-marish “free-way-ish” 4-5 lane one way streets of chain stores, fash-food restaurants, car dealers in either direction, for miles and miles. The Spokane Valley certainly looks nothing like West Seattle and the way it’s going, never will! Thank goodness we don’t look like Spokane Valley and never will! They don’t know what they are talking about.

Sorry, comment time is over.
