-Less revelry, more revelatory: The city Design Review Board convenes @ 6:30 pm @ the SW Precinct, with just one project on the agenda — the first WS megaproject proposal that’s gone to demolition already (4100 Alaska/ex-Hollywood Video, photo below taken this week).
I suppose I just don’t know how things work in our city gov’t., but…shouldn’t all of this have been done before anything was demolished? I guess that when I see things coming down, I figure what goes up next is already approved, and the dotted line signed. Guess that’s not logical?

Gina’s right. The building might have been a liability, as well, for safety reasons.

It sounds to me like the design review boards have way too much power. They’re already holding up the Whole Foods and Petco buildings.
Vacant dilapidated buildings = lots of problems. Drug dealing havens, squatters, copper scroungers, etc. Much better to get them demolished and removed, even if the new replacements are not permitted and ready to go.
Y’all seem to be missing the main point (except Jan). While nobody will seemingly miss an old eyesore building, there is something wrong with the way the city is doing its development business. Permits are granted and everything done before the public is notified in any real way.
When I lived in Greenwood (very recently) we would always get first notices for projects that were already *well* under way. What’s the point in even being notified in that case?
