On the border

We’ve mentioned before that White Center holds many pleasant surprises for WSites who venture south of the city limits. Cafe Rozella, for one. Not far from there, also on the WS-WC border, if you can call it that, is the Salvadorean Bakery. We’ll admit to not having been there, yet. This detailed post/review has us ready to check it out, as soon as we can!

Been there several times and it’s great…one of the best “hidden” bakeries in Seattle!

You get an okay portion with the meals. Pretty good food, but the large assortment of cookies is where its at. Out of all the baked goods I’ve tried there, most everything is great.

They also provided baked goods and pupusas for the Highland Park Action Committee Neighborhood Summit last weekend and they were fabulous.

The food’s great, but pales in comparison to the baked goods. The jam-filled empanadas are my favorite.

try the Platter Entre when you go, it is really good and their breakfast is great for something different.
The Quesadilla Grande is a really good thing to have with coffee, it’s kinda like a sweet corn bread taste but amazing crust..yummmy. We love Salvadorean Bakery. Great place to get cheap bulk Yerba Mate too.

I used to live in White Center and know a lot of the ehtnic food that thrives their. I used to get a decent breakfast at Flapjacks before its closing. But the downside it was a smokers heaven. It was better than Denny’s in its haydays. There is a new Chinese buffett were Hunan Spring used to be, I haven’t been their yet but heard that its a whole lot better than its previous tennants. Oriental Grocers is remodeling and will have a brand new deli inside its doors when finished by late springtime. If you want to try soemthing different, WC has it.

Another special WC bakery is Elisa’s on 16th. Their whipped cream and fruit cakes are delicious! The selection is smaller than at the Salvadorean, but also very good and different. This Asian bakery has some unusual flavored cakes, as well. I don’t remember the names of any of them, though.

Jiggers, where is the chinese buffet you’re referring to? I don’t know where Hunan Spring used to be, so I’m not sure where this is. Always looking to find some good chinese food in the area.

The Salvadorean Bakery does have a nice selection of pastries & other baked goods, but the breakfast and pupusas are what draws me back again and again.

Sorry, comment time is over.
