Road closure alert

The block of 47th just south of Admiral is blocked off this morning because of road work (possibly related to the “pedestrian improvements“? hard to tell — but they’re digging up the 47th corner pavement just north of Alki Mail & Dispatch in a big way).

Has anyone noticed the bus stop at this intersection with the new light? Brilliant. This really helps visibility and traffic flow to have these buses stop in the middle of the arterial in both directions. Brilliant! Thanks

Just to clarify, I was referring to the Admiral area where the lookout is that has the new pedestrian activated stop light. I’m glad they did this, it’s sad people have to die before anything gets done though.. look at the closed on ramp to the old w seattle freeway, for example. Or X number of accidents have to occur before we can do XYZ improvement. The city is reactive instead of proactive and more concerned with budgets than human lives. The term, if you are not outraged then you are not paying attention can be applied to more than just the war. The community has been speaking out about this old ill placed crosswalk for years but they didn’t bneed that, they had data but failed to act until someone died.

The next accident waiting to happen is at 37th and Alaska. Metro moved the bus stop from in front of the American Legion Hall so Sound Transit could use that location. Now, the metro bus stop is in front of Lien Animal clinic where you have no choice but to step off into mud. Crossing Alaska at 37th is an act of blind faith. There is no cross walk or street lighting, you must walk into the street far enough to see around the Sound Transit bus while dodgeing cars turning right from the YMCA. The city and metro need to review this location and take immediate steps to provide a safe crossing for the neighborhood.

Next intersection in the queue for a pedestrian/vehicle tragedy is at Andover Way and Genesee. This particular intersection has bus stops, lots of pedestrian activity, mega traffic on a bad curve with poor line of sight as well as a clutch burning hill with a STOP sign coming up Westbound on Genesee and turning onto Avalon. It is only a matter of time…..

Sorry, comment time is over.
