We LOOOOVVVEE Cometa! My son has been going there from the time that it opened and unfortunately he will be going off to Kindergarten next year. Cometa is so much more than just a Spanish language immersion preschool-- Manuela has the most caring and wonderful staff and they really take the time to cultivate a true learning community. Wish we could stay there for Kindergarten!

Cometa is a play school not a preschool. Manuela, is a lovely lady. However she is not there all the time, and her staff is not up to par. Manuela, opened other "play groups" and now does not have to time to be at each site.

@pattilea: I'm really not sure what you think 2-5 year olds should be doing in preschool, but I think that Cometa Playschool fits the definition of a preschool. I'm not sure what you are trying to imply by saying that it is "not a preschool."
I have had very good experiences with Manuela's staff (Yohanna and Joanna) and have found them both to be extremely skilled, competent, and compassionate. Yes, I know that Manuela herself is not at our West Seattle location all day every day, but I definitely see her there most days (my son is there 5 days a week) and I believe that she delivers the Musikgarten component of her program at her sites. It seems to me that she has maintained a high level of involvement with West Seattle Cometa, and as I said earlier, we have had great experiences at Cometa.

I agree with Kelly. My daugher LOVES Cometa. She has been attending preschool there for almost a year and a half, and all of the teachers have been loving, caring, and very patient with her.

I shall post what happened to our child at Cometa. I have a son that is now 5 years old. Although I have a background in early childhood education, I thought it best for my child to learn to socialize without me being present. I had met Manuela years earlier, and loved her program. We enrolled in Fall 2011. At the end of October when I went to pick up my child, another "teacher" using the word lightly was there. The woman had a red piece of construction paper listed with everything that my son (a boy) had done wrong. And she was very clear that he being a boy in the class of girls was wrong!!! The environment on this day was all girls. Everything he did that day was as she claimed inappropriate to girls. I had never heard one whisper at any other time that he was inappropriate period. Also this was not said private to me, it was in front of my son, and another parent was there. I didn't even know what to say, I was in tears by the time I arrived home. The "teacher" left shortly after that, but we did not feel that we could trust that environment after this happened, because Manuela is not there all the time. Manuela and I talked a length about this, and what procedures should have been taken. And that there is a special way to speak with parents if there is a problem. I just didn't want other parents to think I was writing without an experience.
And Kelly, I do have a degree in early childhood education, and have practiced for over 25 years!Posted 3 months ago #
