Hi all ~ My child will be in the 2010/2011 school year and I didn't see any comments/topics on Arbor Heights. To be honest, I don't hear much via word of mouth - good or bad! If anyone has thoughts, comments etc., would love to hear them. Thanks!

WSM, have you checked out Arbor Heights' website? They have a Yahoo group, Twitter account, Facebook page, more than I've seen most other groups set up (yet, though others are starting), and you certainly could at least reach current parents to ask them. I believe their start page is
http://arborheights.wikispaces.comIt is not among the schools with whom we have had any personal involvement. But there was some news at last night's school board meeting (as reported in our home-page news story) - the Spectrum program (which is the 2nd of two advanced-learning tiers) is supposed to start at AH this fall.

Go to the source, as WSB states and talk to Arbor Heights parents. There's one parent who posts in the forum under a new name every few months, that had a lot of run ins with people and is very bitter. Have since transferred their child to Roxhill, but just can't let it go.
FYI, the PTSA is outstanding and a Spectrum program is scheduled to start this fall if that applies.

I have a third grader at Arbor Heights and my high school student also attended AH. We love AH and highly recommend it. My third grader was diagnosed with a learning disorder two years ago by the AH staff. She was placed in pull-out special ed and an IEP was written. Today she is working at or above grade level and no longer needs an IEP. I attribute her progress to the caring and supportive teaching of both the special ed teacher, Sue Holms, and regular classroom teachers. My daughter was very discouraged two years ago but with their help she is now an invested and eager student. I am very shy but have made enduring friendships with the other families at Arbor Heights and have always felt welcome.
I would also like to echo bluebird's comments about one particular parent who is very bitter about her experience with Arbor Heights. I urge you to visit our school and judge for yourself. I know there will be an open house for parents some time in February. I look forward to meeting you and your family.

My 7th and 9th graders both attended AH and we loved it. My kids had a lot of great teachers and many of them are still teaching at AH. The PTSA is very active. We had the option of sending our kids to Spectrum or APP but chose to stay at AH and we have never regretted it. They got an excellent education and thrived there.
I know this is not recent info, but I also encourage you to talk to people who have kids enrolled at AH to get a true picture.

Bluebird why are you so bothered by another parent let alone a former parent? I have heard good and bad, mostly good. Bottomline be an advocate for your child, join the PTA, and attend all the school functions as you possibly can. No one school is right for all, find the right fit for your child.
Good luck WSM!

Luckymom30, I have only heard bad from one particular parent. This parents name keeps changing, but basically it's the same parent.

L-mom, I don't think it's a mystery to anyone in the community, including yourself. Any time Arbor Heights Elementary comes up, the same "mom" has to go out of her way to bash the school, when in reality, this "mom" is the problem. She intentionally made a lot of lives miserable and doesn't care. It's offensive, and hurtful to hardworking, dedicated people. Since this "mom" refuses to stop the slander, a little proactive warning goes a long way.

Thank you all for the comments. Sounds like joining the PTSA is a good place to get involved!
I have no idea who some of you are referring to with the 'name change'. Are they posting on this thread? Anyway, thanks again!

Bluebird, Bonnie and anyone else, please stop bashing this parent by bringing her up again. Ok, maybe she had a bad experience and did not get along with alot of you for whatever reason. Life goes on and I am sure that she has gone on with her life and forgotten about all of you. I am not aware of anyone changing their names and I do hope that in the event that yoour children attend another school with this parents child you can be fogiving and let bygones be bygones.
I would really hope that all our children regardless of which school they attend and whomever has the bigger PTA can come together and give all children the same opportunities.
Sounds like neither Bluebird or Bonnie have not forgiven this parent. What a waste of energy.
WSM I wish you good luck in your choice of schools for your child, choose wisely, take your time and get involved in whichever school you decide is a better fit for your child.

My 7th and 10th grader were both AH students. I, like Suzanne, chose to keep my kids at AH and forgo the Spectrum programs at other school. It is a wonderful neighborhood school that has great teachers and staff, a good solid foundation of learning, and are involved with many other outside events- Earth Day bags, raising and releasing Salmon in Faunt creek, 5th grade camp to name a few. As with any school you are the only advocate your child has so stay involved, volunteer in the class or PTA if you can, know your teachers and principal.
Good luck.Posted 2 years ago # -
My daughter goes to A.H. and is in kindergarten now. We got a great feeling from A.H. from the very first time we visited.
They have a very involved PTSA,which says lot for the families that attend A.H. also. Families care enough to help out with their class and the school.
Couldnt be happier.Posted 2 years ago #
