American Idol

  1. Okay, I admit it, right here on WSB Forums, I LOVE AMERICAN IDOL this year.
Why this topic has never been discussed puzzles me (well just kinda).
Will it be James, or Scotty, or Lauren, or Casey, or.....
Sooooo, now's your chance to weigh in. I know there's some Idol fans out there in WSB-land.

  4. I am pretty sure prime time TV has become an IQ sink.

If you continue to watch, you fade from three digits to two.

Am I the ONLY person who's never seen this? Or any reality show? Or who never knew what a "Snookie" was until I got on an airplane with it? Kind of explains why Donald Trump feels like he can run for office. And why Arnold Schwartznegger won one.

  6. I've never seen it. Luckily, I have many things I'm interested in doing that leave me little time to sit in front of the tube. I used to watch an occasional baseball game but the M's have pretty much ruined that for me.

never seen it; if I want to listen to an 'unknown', I listen to Eva Cassidy and wonder how she would have handled fame if cancer hadn't taken her so early. I much prefer hearing a golden voice with minimal accompaniment than the overwrought, overproduced productions that dominate music now.

as much as I would like to tweak the R's for criticizing Hollywood liberals and then electing AH-nold, he is actually very accomplished in business and other areas. I just think CA is too far gone for anyone to manage to bring it back.

  8. I'm not a hard metal fan, but have recognized that James is very talented and entertaining. But his song last night blew me away. What a voice that guy has - and perfect pitch, too.
I really like Jacob, but haven't especially liked some of his song choices. Wish he could sing gospel every week.
    Didn't like Casey's song.
Haley is getting better every week.
I haven't a clue who's going to win this year.
    So, who goes home tonight?

I've never watched American Idol or most popular reality shows, but I'm not going to act holier-than-thou and claim that TV is a waste. Honestly, I love TV. I'm just particular about what I watch, and reality shows make me feel kind of sad and bored.
Give me some Parks & Recreation, 30 Rock, Community, Jeopardy, Dexter, True Blood, Nova, Frontline, the dearly departed Arrested Development, or several other shows and I'm quite happy to veg for a couple hours. :-)
(I know that's not what this thread was about, but I felt the need to stand up for TV after some of the previous comments.)

I am annoyed with America for voting Casey off. I am annoyed also by the posts here bashing the show or the idea of reality tv being so beneath some people. That is almost funny because tv is entertainment. I just watched an old episode of All in the Family ... Archie is racist and chauvenustic, and funny as hell. That is from the 70 's .in the 80's we watched threes company and different strokes. Not exactly iq boosters;) it just is what it is entertainment.

  13. Metrognome...I discovered Eva Cassidy about 13 years ago..heard her one Sunday morning on the radio driving out 509 to the airport. Knocked my socks off. I love good music, I have never seen Snooky, yet I watch American Idol. For goodness sake it's not like it's on for 10 hours a week..like football. It's an hour or two. no harm. And perfectly sane, intelligent men sometimes plan their weekends around watching ultimate fighting or kick boxing on the tube...no difference, really. My IQ is still 145..yes, I said 145.
