Followup: What else was in those burglary suspects’ SUV

Yesterday morning, thanks to WSB’er tips (see news? contact us 24/7), we brought you the story of 2 burglary suspects arrested on the West Seattle Bridge. This morning, SPDBlotter has just added a few details to the story – specifically, what else police found in the suspects’ SUV besides the shop saw stolen from the victim: “A bag of golf clubs, a large hard plastic tool chest, and a blue motorcycle.”

Doesn’t everyone keep a set of golf clubs and a motorcycle in the back of their “STOLEN” SUV?

I think it’s hilarious that the SPD still refers to it as the West Seattle -Freeway- :-)

That must be how it was written in the officer’s report, because that’s how Det. Mark Jamieson of the media unit read it to me when I called yesterday morning for details. Although even at that, it wouldn’t have been an accurate description even a decade ago – you may recall, the WS Freeway was the name for the easternmost stretch of The Bridge, between 99 and 5. By most accounts, this happened on the “high rise” – TR

    It’s a bridge, not a freeway.

Google Maps calls it the West Seattle Freeway, too.

Always a peril in getting local info from something nonlocal… on many if not all G-Maps, you will see the big body of water to our north misspelled ELLIOT Bay …

Pardon the aside, all, but I have lived in the region almost my entire adult life (not counting some years traveling) and as far back as I can personally recall, all the locals *I* ever knew/know have always called it the “West Seattle FREEWAY”. It was only in more recent years when they changed all the freeway signs (which also referred to it as a ‘freeway’) to read “bridge” that the confusion/debate/etc has come about. Fwiw, I as a native still do prefer and likely always will call it a “freeway”. Old habits and all that…

A related quick ‘trivia’ addendum, next time you’re on I-5 take a closer look at the interchange signs, you will see the letters “BR.” in ‘West Seattle Br.’ are actually still just on a small green board tacked on the signs to conceal the original letters underneath, “Fwy.”

Sorry, comment time is over.
