Burglary suspects arrested on the West Seattle Bridge

Thanks to everyone who e-mailed and texted us about a startling sight on The Bridge about an hour ago, which appeared to involve someone getting arrested. We just checked with the Seattle Police media unit and they say that’s exactly what happened. According to Det. Mark Jamieson, it all started with a burglary report in the 3800 block of 46th SW (map) – a caller saw two men stealing things out of a backyard, including a shop saw. The caller gave police a description of the men and their vehicle, and it was tracked down on the eastbound bridge. Police held the suspects until the victim/witness could be brought to the scene to identify them, then, when positive identification was made, the two suspects were arrested. 3:50 PM NOTE: We asked Southwest Precinct Lt. Steve Paulsen if the two have been linked to any other burglaries, since several passers-by say their SUV looked “packed full” – he says, “We’re still looking into that.”

And another two bite the dust. Good job neighbors and SPD.
I hope they determine who buys this property from thieves. It goes without saying that those who buy tools and stereos out of the back of a truck only make this activity worse.
How much can these people get for this stuff? As to the car prowls, I am sure stealing cash and change is a priority and oh…there is a Coinstar machine right across the street at QFC! My burglar was a regular at this machine and I am told there is no security camera in the area.

Back of a truck? Try Craigslist. Most people I know just assume everything you see for sale (tools, stereos, ipods, electronics) are stolen property. It may or may not be true, but it sure seems that way.

I heard the whole thing go down on the scanner from first call to arrest. SPD was on the ball this morning. The officer on the bridge was not part of the original call-out. He was simply observant and noticed the vehicle. Way to go!

I saw them get arrested it sure made my Monday morning interesting.
I’m glad to hear that they got caught. Nothing annoys me more than someone who breaks the law and gets away with it.

Saw the ending of this as I was getting on the bridge after coming from Pathfinder K8. They had the suburban hooked up to a tow truck.

Craigslist and eBay are the two most common places to pawn off stolen goods these days. Most police will use craigslist and ebay as resources to help track down thieves of larger ticket items.

I’ve reported items in the past to SPD that are blatantly not legit sales. A new $3700 bicycle for $275… hmmm…no.

The wife and I saw the thieves being handcuffed. As we passed, I did my best Nelson Muntz from the Simpsons and went “A-ha!”. She didn’t think it was funny at the time (I did). Now it’s even more apropos. So to the thieves, I again say “A-ha! Busted!” Nice job, witness and SPD!

Yes, the large SUV was 2 cars behind me when the police stopped them and drew their weapons on the car. The SUV looked like it was packed full. Nice work SPD!!!!!
