West Seattle Crime Watch: Rock thrown through window

That’s Nicole‘s window, near 37th/Edmunds, south of The Mount. And this is what did the damage:

Nicole shared those photos along with the story of what happened:

I have a frightening and very disappointing incident to inform you about. Last night around 10 pm, I was sitting in my front living room when a rock was thrown through my front window. Unfortunately I was not able to see the suspects, it was too dark. I’m thankful I was not struck by the rock or the glass that was littered across the living room but it certainly could have been a lot worse. Whoever threw the rock did it from 100-150 feet away, as our house sits high up off the street. It was clearly deliberate and not an accident. The rock was the size of a baseball and shattered the big window which is quite large, 12’x5′.

The police combed the area but came up with nothing. I’m not sure how something like this can be prevented but it certainly has my attention. I’m going to add additional motion sensor lights on that side of the house and possibly add a video camera and surveillance sign, we have had a lot of car break-ins and burglaries in the area.

No way you could have prevented it and I am glad you were not hurt. 3M has a series of products you might like to think about. They may not prevent window breakage but some of them will protect you from harm.

That’s an expensive window. Sorry to hear about what happened but glad nobody was injured.

Nicole, I’m so sorry this happened to you. For every loser out there doing damage like this, there are many more normal and respectful people.

We live high up off the street (highland park area) and about a month ago we got hit by a rock as well. The damage looks the same. Expensive to fix too. Argh.

The rock thrown thru a window from a distance was possibly the beginning of a robbery attempt. Happened to a good friend of mine when he was not at home; they threw a rock (police said most likely from across the street) that broke the large front window, and when nobody came out from the house to investigate, they broke in thru the back door and stole laptop, cash, etc.
Police said it was becoming a common method.

Sorry to hear about your window. you might also think about putting some sort of window tinting on. Its just like the film they put on car windows to darken it. It adds privacy for you when the shades are open. You can choose how ever light or dark you want the film to be.

I’d like to throw a rock at the head of the creep who did this – but he (or she) already has rocks in the head.

Thanks for the support everyone. Bolo: I appreciate your comment, my instinct right after it happened was to hide and not go near the window thinking someone out there might throw another rock once I appear. It never occured to me that it might be a ploy to rob my place. I am considering putting a privacy tint on the glass. I’m annoyed that it’s going to cost me money out of pocket, my homeowner’s deductible is $500. Of course that’s the way life goes, property damage happens to all of us unfortunately. Pooh on the people who did this though, I hope karma (or a rock gets them)! ugh -Nicole

Sorry, comment time is over.
