A relative of mine heard from a WSF employee (and good friend) a while back, that WSF was going to make the Southworth car terminal into a walk-on terminal only, with no autos, due to the lack of traffic and funds.

It was some kind of long range plan to begin in the near future (2010+) but I’ve never seen anything offical about it. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

This the first I’ve heard of any such proposal. I find it hard to believe that WSF would ever make Southworth walk-on only, unless they were trying to send vehicle traffic to Seattle-Bremerton. All long-range plans I’ve seen seem to indicate the opposite. Any idea as to when this proposal came out?

we’ve covered the long-range plan extensively. it does not currently call for that. the main focus wrt southworth was whether to divert all car traffic to downtown seattle. that plan is not currently happening – TR

With Southworth as one of the most underserved commuter routes in the system and with the growing population there is no way that it would be cut as a vehicle terminal.

the best scenerio is for WSF to begin building the larger boats they need and to spin Southworth off to Colman Dock.

that is not in the current planning horizon so look for continued traffic buildup on the soon to be single lane Fauntleroy Avenue.

Sorry, comment time is over.
