1st-ever Junction Car Show: More cars, more highlights

tshirtcarshow.jpgAnother update on the first-ever West Seattle Junction Car Show coming up September 21st (one week from Sunday!), co-sponsored by WSB — Michael Hoffman of Liberty Bell Printing says more than 140 cars are now registered, and they’re expecting about 300 (preregistration is closed so you’ll need to show up on show day, first-come first-served – call June @ 206/334-6606 with questions); as previously mentioned, California SW will be closed in The Junction for the car show, Edmunds to Alaska, Alaska to Oregon, Oregon to the post office. What you see at left is the cool design for T-shirts that will be sold (first-ever show! collector’s item?) – price starts at $10 (XL and up will be a bit more; sizes run to 6XL). The day’s highlights also will include a pancake breakfast at the West Seattle Eagles, starting at 7 am; Puerto Vallarta will open at 7 am with a special breakfast menu; the West Seattle Farmers’ Market‘s annual Zucchini 500 races (kids get to make zucchini vehicles!) will be happening 10 am-1 pm. Now, about those cars – all are pre-1975, no 4x4s, says Michael – and at least one dates back to 1920! There also will be a raffle and 50/50 drawing to raise money for the Maple Valley Street Rats Scholarship Fund – available to students studying to work in the automotive field – the MVSR is organizing the show along with the West Seattle Junction Association.

Hi, just wondering what the level of the car quality is expected to be? I’m interested in entering my 64 Falcon, but it’s much more a driver/hotrod than a show car. If anyone has any thoughts on the make up of this event I would really appreciate it.

I’m sorry, but I just can’t get on board with anyone who charges more for larger-sized shirts. It’s incredibly disrespectful. How come they aren’t charging more for the XL vs. the Small? More fabric used, right? Oh that’s right, S-XL is “normal” sizing. Silly me. This is complete BS.

This is great for the junction! I can’t wait to see all those old cars, but I will wait, and patiently….Until the 21st that is! :-)

Is there a reason for no old 4×4’s?

Sounds fun. What are the hours of the car show?

Jimbo, as a gal who wears a couple Xs most of the time, I have to say it’s standard for the biggest sizes to cost extra, most places I’ve ever shopped. Maybe it’s not that way so much for men as for women, and that’s why it seems unusual to you? Even the LL Bean catalog charges more for “women’s” sizes (the euphemism for all of us past 12-14). I suppose you could say that it would be fairer to tier pricing to be different for each and every size – although that would be an administrative hassle – TR

I think this event is going to be great! I have no connection to it, but as an observer I’d love to see daily drivers in addition to show quality. I’d love a classic daily driver of my own, but for me a second car is an out of reach luxury. Let’s have a look at Marc’s 64 Falcon Van.

really looking forward to this event
    ~
especially the really old cars, pre-50’s
    ~
and cars from my high school days, when all the guys were fixing up the 50’s cars
    ~
my first was a red 66 Mustang, that my dad bought new, for a family with 5 kids; mom was not pleased; after the divorce, I got it for a while
    ~
and VW bugs? first on-my-own car, again red; don’t see them much anymore
    ~
    loves the classics

    Jimbo,
The higher cost for the XXL and above shirts will only be what the extra cost of these shirts are. Sorry, but the manufacturer charges more for these and that needs to be passed along. These shirts have a four color design on the front – at $10 the shirt are a steal! I am sure most people will understand.

this is going to be great!!!

  • JumboJim September 10, 2008 (5:13 pm)

Yikes, there’s a WSB commentor out there with a name close enough to mine to cause confusion! Just so you know – JumboJim and Jimbo are not one and the same as commentors go. Sounds like Jimbo can be a bit of a crank (just like I can be) but I don’t want the WSB readers to confuse his cranky comments with mine…

And more on topic, I think the car show sounds like great fun. I hope someone brings along an old British sports car. My dad is a Triumph collector and the GT-6 is one of my favorites. I still have this fantasy of driving a mustard yellow GT-6 with Emma Peel riding shotgun…

Hey 64 Falcon Mark. I am bring my 64 El Camino which is nice, but no totally restored car. I love 64 Falcons. My favorite year. Bring it for sure.

This is going to be my 1st time entering a car show. Really looking forward to it. Also, I just moved to West Seattle and don’t know anyone (in Seattle or the whole state for that matter) so I’m hoping to meet some new people.

  • Diane September 11, 2008 (11:13 am)

    Welcome Eternaldrifter
    ~
I moved to Seattle July 1998 by myself, didn’t know anyone; it was very lonely for long time; thank god for wsblog to make it easier in West Seattle to connect with our neighbors

  • Eternaldrifter September 12, 2008 (4:41 pm)

Thanks, Diane. I’m glad I found this blog. Haven’t had a chance to really dive into it yet. I just came across it after Googleing the car show. I hope I do make some connections thru it.

  • WILLIAM GAX September 19, 2008 (5:17 pm)

I have been waiting for a car show. Nate is in the MTS.
    Thanks

  • max September 20, 2008 (11:40 am)

Its a car show that welcomes all makes and qualities. I am bringing my daily driver which is a 1949 dodge

  • WSB September 20, 2008 (11:52 am)

Do note the couple of parameters mentioned in the report atop the comments – pre 1975, no 4x4s, according to organizers. See you all there tomorrow – we’ll be out bright and early taking pictures for several reports before/during/after! – TR

Sorry, comment time is over.
