Alki Elementary students’ Bike To School Day ride with the mayor

Perfect weather for Bike To School Day, and Alki Elementary students were joined by a special guest: Mayor Ed Murray, who lived in the area when he was a kid. He caught up with the “bike train” that left Anchor (Luna) Park. Once they got to school, some time to chat before classes began:

An awards ceremony also was planned for the student riders, to celebrate safety achievements such as “Most Visible Rider.” Bike To School Day is part of Bike Month, which also includes Bike To Work Day on May 15th, one week from Friday.

It takes too many kids off my bus!!

Of the normal 33-38 Alki kids I transport each day, today there were only 18 which makes for a sad bus driver.

But I’m glad to see they had such a great and successful time!!

    Awww,

What a great photo op. Did he do this in the Columbia city or the CD as well?

I believe just here. School-start-time windows probably prohibited anything else. When he stepped to the microphone for the Transportation Levy event earlier, he mentioned having biked with kids in his old neighborhood earlier in the morning.

We had a great ride and look forward to more Alki kids biking throughout the month. Alki Elementary was very fortunate that Mayor Ed Murray was able to join the train as an alumni of Alki Elementary

Sorry, comment time is over.
