West Seattle Crime Watch: Search for hit-run driver
September 20, 2012 at 2:56 pm | In Arbor Heights, Crime, West Seattle news | 12 Comments
2:56 PM: If you’re in Arbor Heights and wondering about the notable police presence – there’s a search under way for a hit-run driver, according to Seattle Police. After the crash – for which we don’t have full details yet – the driver parked and ran, with a citizen in pursuit for a while.
3:03 PM: We’re in the neighborhood where it happened, 44th SW south of SW 98th. Nobody hurt. An SPD K-9 team just arrived to join the search. The driver is described as a bald Caucasian man, white T-shirt and blue jeans. He was driving a blue sedan that smashed into a parked white Suburban.

And here I thought they were just making sure I was going 20…
Comment by Bonnie — 3:17 pm September 20, 2012 #
Thanks for the update! When I didn’t see anything online or on facebook I called (from 35h Avenue Chiropractic) so you’ll get that message, but at least now we know why so many cops were driving by, always good work, thanks again!

Sorry, takes a while to find out sometimes. We were both at a news event in White Center when I checked mail on the phone and saw a note from someone asking about the police presence … no injuries related to it so there was nothing on the 911 log; I ducked out of the event, called police and they weren’t immediately sure; then they finally found it on their screen, and I wrote something as we headed to Arbor Heights. Again, the value of folks letting us know when they see/hear something (we did just check voice mail and got yours and a few others – THANKS!). – TR
.
P.S. To Bonnie – interesting thing is that while en route to this and also while driving Roxbury this morning, we noticed school zone enforcement by Holy Family – so there WERE police in the general area making sure you were going 20, if you were anywhere near there :)

hope they catch him soon! with all the kids leaving school and adults still at work he could be hiding anywhere!

Begs the question: How does the school system or LE agencies determine when to shelter in-place?
Comment by Gawdger — 3:57 pm September 20, 2012 #
Gawdger, If we determine there is any threat to the school children we call the school and advise them. They make the decision to lock down. We keep them advised of the progress of the call so they can make the decision to release the lock down.
Hope that answers for you.

Just saw a bald guy with white shirt (not a t) and jeans walking on 106th. Mid-20s+

At the traffic circles on 98th, at cross streets 37th and 41st (I think), the traffic signs in the middle of the both of the circles have been knocked down, or pulled out and just lying on the ground in the middle of the circles. Related? Who do we report the damage to?

I don’t know but we did notice some down when we were heading to this. Call 206-684-ROAD to let SDOT know. – TR

Driver turned north from 100th onto 44th and went screaming down the street, crossed onto the left of the street side into the parking strip (no curb and gutter here) and smashed into the vehicle. Hit and run driver’s honda was totaled, air bags deployed, etc. Victim has 2 children….if his vehicle hadn’t been there, the speeding Honda would have gone right through his fence and into the yard. I hope they catch that guy.

I’ll be following up a bit later – the PD folks are tied up right now with a downtown shooting. The incident map does label this as a stolen car incident, which tends to be the reason hit-run drivers run …

Thanks Sgt Joe for taking the time to respond.
